Salin plus for asthma

Hi,

Dd2 is 5 and struggling just now.
We did manage to get her mostly under control but still looks like steroids and neb again today.

Our chemist is advising us to try her with the salin plus machine but at £160 I wanted to check it's worth it first. More than happy to buy it (I know it's cheaper on amazon but I could get it today from the chemist) but I wondered if anyone has used it? I don't want to make her worse!

Would be grateful to hear your thoughts

I think salt therapy is to asthmatics is as lavender baths are to childbirth.

If you aren't happy with your child's breathing and she is on (oral?) steroids and using a neb you need to get more medical help.

Does she see a paediatrician and asthma nurse for her asthma? If so you need to contact themand ask for advice. If not you need to ask to gp to refer you to one. unless prescribed by a paediatric specialist you shouldnt really use nebulisers at home. Saline nebs can actually be dangerous to asthmatics as they can cause bronchospasms. If shes struggling to breath because her chest is tight, saline wont help anyway, only salbutamol would help.
What preventers is she on? If shes having to use oral steriods a lot it sounds like whatever shes on needs to be reviewed to help get things under control.

Hi, yes she has an asthma nurse and action plan. The salin isn't a nebuliser treatment or an alternative to anything - was just looking to use it to help generally not to alleviate current symptoms

We were meant to have an appt today but snowed in, have spoken to them on the phone though and they went her started on steroids, double doses on brown and multi dose blue if necessary.

She's doing ok at the moment but she had a tendency to go downhill quickly and her sats will drop into the 80s without a moments notice

It was the pharmacist who wanted us to try the salin plus and although he is lovely and very good he is also running a business so that's why I was looking for impartial views on that

I'm a lifelong asthmatic myself but hadn't come across the salin machine before (assume it's a home version of the salt cave but I've not tried that either)
