Diagnosing child asthma

DS has suspected asthma. The only symptoms we've noticed are getting really breathless after little activity, getting tired a lot easier and occasional cough. We saw the asthma nurse today and she took his peak flow reading and prescribed inhalers to see if they help with the symptoms. She said his peak flow was lower than she would have expected.

I wondered if he just wasn't blowing properly but we've tried again multiple times at home and the average is 190. I Googled (I know, I know) and for his height 139cm it's saying he should have a reading of above 300.

Does a low peak flow when he seems well indicate asthma or could that just be his "normal"?

A low reading on a peak flow meter does indicate asthma, provided he's blowing correctly.

yes that's very low and indicates asthma or lung 'weakness' following illness.

did you get a peakflow to measure at home?
we had to test 3x a day for a couple of weeks to see a pattern and to adjust the medicines.

Yes we have to measure once in the morning and once in the evening and fill out a diary for 6 weeks. The nurse said if the reading drops below 100 or if his symptoms get worse then to go back sooner.
