7 month old sick for nearly 3 weeks ...

So roughly 3 weeks ago my LO has bronchoiolitus, which incurred some vomiting as he was coughing so much and struggling with his breathing. He was seen at the hospital but we managed him at home and his breathing quickly improved! However he continued to be sick. In the last 3 weeks he hasn’t taken his bottles well at all and is having approx half what he should. Been to doctors twice this week, first time they gave me lactose free milk which has had no effect. Went back again today and they said it could be reflux so gaviscon prescribed, so far has not worked and is still projectile vomiting. He now also has a temperature of 37.8 to go with it. I am so worried as he’s such a happy, easy to feed baby usually but these last 3 weeks he has been completely different, irritable, difficult to feed, crying lots, drowsy at times. Doctors don’t ever seem to be concerned and I’m starting to feel like I’m coming across as a neurotic mother but I feel like something is wrong! Any advice please would hugely help! Xx

I should also add that he has lost a pound in weight in the last week due to his lack of feeding. He also has on/off diarrhoea and then is awfully constipated and passing very hard stools which isn’t normal for his age! I haven’t been able to feed him solids now for nearly 3 weeks either, so worried!

He is also producing wet nappies so not severely dehydrated x

I didn't want to read and run. I haven't any suggestions apart from maybe calling 111, explaining what has been going on and today his temperature has raised. They may tell you to pop to out of hours drs, they may give you new advice?

Also, please, as a mum who was classed as a neurotic mother taking her baby to drs from 29 days old and being told she was fine. Then at 6 months my DD had stopped breathing. I managed to resuscitate her. The hospital did every test going and a diagnosis was finally given!
Trust your instincts! You are a mother. You know your baby better than anybody! Thanks

Thank you for your response, if he is no better come the morning I’m going to take him back to the doctors and just ask for more answers! I just feel I am being a bit ‘fobbed off’. I will definitely trust my instincts on this one, I know he’s not right.
Oh my goodness, that must have been terrifying for you!! I am glad she is ok now, thankfully you knew what to do!

Will you please update later with what dr says and an update on how your DS is.
It was terrifying, I think even my family thought I was being neurotic after a couple of months of taking her Drs weekly, going to different Drs. But 10 years on she is fine. She has connective tissue disease. But very slight. Its just a case of keeping an eye on her for any weakening.

I took him back today, they have referred him to a paediatrician, I should get a phone call tomorrow fingers crossed with a time to go up there for him to be seen! He looks dreadful, he’s gone from the 90th percentile to the 50th because of his weight loss. Has managed 10oz milk so far today and just projectile vomited what looks like a whole bottles worth! To be honest the doctor I saw looked at me like I was worried about nothing, he said he would refer me to peads to put my mind at rest!! But seriously!! He’s 7mo barely drinking a quarter what he should some days, not managing solids and losing weight! I’m worried sick and don’t feel like any of them get it! Just because he’s not serverly dehydrated they don’t seem to be interested. At my wits end! Xx

So glad your little one is better now, it goes to show how true mother’s instinct is! I feel almost in tears with how stressed I feel. Just want some answers! X

Good on you for going back
Trust your instincts - another mum here who was written off as an anxious mum when actually my baby desperately needed an operation (which she’s now had thankfully)
Push to get a quick referral
Write down what he is eating and when he is sick and any other symptoms

Jellybellymoo · 28/11/2017 22:56

Hi rainbow, I know sometimes they make you feel so stupid. I know deep down something isn’t right. I am going to call them if I don’t hear anything in the morning, he has once again thrown up most of his feeds today. I’ve written down all of his intakes! Fingers crossed I may get some answers tomorrow! Thank you for your message xx
