Blood counts low - worried

My daughter is 12 years old. For the past 18 months or so she has had the odd bruise in a random place such as her lip or wrist, its small and disappears and we mentioned this to a doctor a while ago when she went in for something else. Told to take a pic of it or come in if it happens again. Roll on a year later and the other day she woke up with a sizeable bruise on her thigh. Took her the docs friday (same day as bruise) as she hadn't knocked it and it wasn't sore. Doctor had bloods done yesterday and called me this morning saying that everything was a bit low and she had slight anemia NOT caused by low iron. She has referred her for an urgent appointment and says she will need another blood test done in 2 weeks time. She said she doesn't think its leukaemia and explained that she could just have a virus in her system so this has bought up a low count and not to worry. TBH i didnt really take much in over the phone, but from what i gather everything was just a little low - white blood cells, platelets, red blood cells.
There are alot of bugs going round at the moment and she did come down with a coldsore the other day and this morning has a slight cold so hoping its a virus. BUT i am worried sick!! shes fine every other way health wise.
I have been googling - i know the worst thing to do! - aplastic anemia seems to tick boxes. Anyone been in a similar situation before? what further tests do you think she will need?
Thanks in advance

Hiya, sorry I can’t give you much advice, but I have been in a very similar position. I wouldn’t say it sounds like leukaemia tho if it’s been going on for so long. Has she possibly had slapped cheek? I know that can cause problems with blood count (rarely) that’s what they put my son low count down to at first, but definitely possible to be caused by a virus. Hope you get some answers soon xx

My dd has always had a tendency to this- bruises appearing randomly. She’s also had phases of being generally sickly- she seems to catch anything going around. She’s had blood tests at various points and it usually comes back with low readings, so I’ve accepted that that seems to be the ‘status quo’ for her.

I’m not underestimating your worry - I have been beside myself at various times (this issue has cropped up over a long time with dd) But it just seems to be one of those quirks - it’s gone on so long and nothing conclusive has ever shown up

I think the fact the GP actually raised the word leukaemia and said they really don’t think it is, is very reassuring because a GP won’t do that lightly. They err on the side of caution and generally won’t say anything, so that looks like a good sign.

Try to keep busy while you’re waiting on results though- I’ve been there so many times with dd and keeping busy is Honestly the best way

Leukaemia normally means a very high white cell count.
