She's got dark orange wee, complaining of tummy ache. She doesn't have a temp. She's drinking for england so not dehydrated. Phoned 111 and they have booked a appointment for her at emergency docs at the hospital at 10.20 today. Should I be prepared to stay over night for tests as she has a history of febrile convulsions and when she has tummy pain there's nothing I can give her at home as she cannot have Calpol as it sets her off being sick and ibuprofen irritates her tummy pain. She also refuses to take antibiotics and has to have them via a drip when she needs them. Any advice to avoid a over night stay with her.

No harm packing a bag - although whenever i think it will go that way we come home & when I don’t take a bag we stay!

nextstopChristmas · 12/11/2017 19:13

Should have added - hope she is ok?

Does her breath smell funny at all? Like pear drops?

soontobemrsmckeown · 12/11/2017 19:19

It doesn't smell of pear drops but does smell sweet if that makes sence

I am thinking about possible diabetes- but also could be urine infection, but would have thought a temperature is likely with that.

Just keep a close eye, if worries while waiting for appointment phone back -

How is she in herself?

QOD · 12/11/2017 19:25

Pack a bag. Just in case
Hope it’s all nothing

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/11/2017 19:27

My first thought was diabetes

Wolfiefan · 12/11/2017 19:28

Any swelling?

Rachie1986 · 12/11/2017 19:29

No advice but hope she's ok and Flowers for you x

3luckystars · 12/11/2017 19:41

You should ask for paralink and nurofen or voltarol suppositories for her and always have them in the house from now on. What age is she?

Good luck tonight, I hope she is ok.

soontobemrsmckeown · 12/11/2017 19:41

No swelling, no temp. Sort of fine in herself. She's just had a offensive smelling poo.

It wouldn’t even cross my mind that mine would have to stay in for this. Does your DD have a complex medical history? Here it would be a dip of the urine to see if there was anything in it and then sent home with appropriate meds.

t1mum3 · 12/11/2017 19:46

I hope it goes ok. Pack a bag and don't let them send you away without a finger prick blood test for type one diabetes. Mention the drinking a lot and the sweet breath and they should be doing this anyway. Hopefully all will be well but if not, come back on here and we can help you find support groups, etc.

Your appointment is 10.20 pm today, right?

Clovertoast · 12/11/2017 19:48

Same as previous poster? Why would they keep her in?
No temperature, non symptomatic except for tummy ache?
Not being an arse it just doesn't seem likely to me?
If it's a urine infection which with tummy ache and dark wee could be likely then drink lots of water and cranberry

They won't keep her in for that????

soontobemrsmckeown · 12/11/2017 19:50

She has a slightly complex history yes. She has alergys to a few meds and refuses to take others that she can. Last time she was poorly she ended up with I iv and was close to being tube fed. She suffers with low blood sugar a lot but not diabetes as yet. Appointment is tonight at 10.20. She's slightly warm now but not a temp.

If she is "drinking for england," has tummy ache and sweet smelling breath, these are all signs of diabetic ketoacidosis which is an emergency and usually results in a hospital stay of a few days.

t1mum3 · 12/11/2017 19:51

Do you test her blood glucose (curious about the low blood sugar thing)?

soontobemrsmckeown · 12/11/2017 20:00

They test it at the hospital and it's resulted in a few overnight stays to bring it up. Cannot remember the lowest it's been but that time she was amberlanced in as she was in and out of conciousenus. I'll update once we have been seen to what they say.

I hope it goes ok.

nextstopChristmas · 12/11/2017 20:06

My child has ketotic Hypoglycaemia mostly when poorly, tired or cold but can be random.

Do you have the blood glucose monitor at home? If so test her?

We have lows between 2.3 & 3.5 with some rebound highs of 18, but the highs always come down.

Do you have a plan when she has a low?

We are under GOSH as at first it was linked to having a transient condition that meant he had too much insulin.

nextstopChristmas · 12/11/2017 20:09

Sorry just seen they have only tested it at hospital- regardless of this episode you need a plan for her lows and the ability to test her if she is prone to them. Make sure you mention her sugar levels being unstable tonight.

Good luck & keep an eye on her in the next few hours.

MrsPringles · 12/11/2017 20:12

No harm packing a bag just in case but hopefully she’ll be ok to come back home, good luck Flowers

Migraleve · 12/11/2017 20:14

Ok since the drip feed about suffering low blood sugar and having been kept in before I would say yes, pack a bag.

Rachie1986 · 13/11/2017 07:45

How is she OP?

soontobemrsmckeown · 13/11/2017 08:25
