Ear infection and health insurance

Hi, not sure if this is the best place to post but I’m looking for some advice.

My daughter has been suffering from ear infections and has had 3 in the last few months. The doctors have now said they are referring her to see a specialist.

I have contact my health insurance but they have said they will not cover this as it’s a pre existing problem.

I get where they are coming from but the doctor disagrees as she said you have to have a certain amount before seeing a specialist.

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of this?

Thanks x

Sounds like BS. When did you take out the policy?

I took out the policy 6 months ago so this is the second ear infection since the policy but 7th in total (she’s 2.5) I didn’t mention the last one to them but since she has now been referred I’ve called them.

They said because she had some last year they won’t cover her. My doctor doesn’t agree and said they wouldn’t refer until she had 6 or more

Your insurers sound like complete scumbags. All kids get ear infections. How many pre-insurance would they have been ok with? How many ear infections suddenly makes it a pre-existing condition. If you had previously taken her to the doctors for the ear infections but had not been referred, then presumably the GP didn't consider it a condition at that point. Call them up, argue with them and if the person you are put through to first doesn't say you're covered - ask to speak to their manager. And tell them if they don't cover this, then you want to cancel the policy. Bastards.

I’ve successfully appealed a decision made by my health insurance. I think I ended up with about £4K paid for that they were initially refusing to cover. They have a process and I can’t see that you have anything to lose by asking to go through it.
