My baby has an awful awful case of hand foot and mouth. She is distraught and clearly in so much pain. I think mainly from her mouth which is covered in ulcers.
I've found some baby bonjela, she's having calpol and ibuprofen.
But nothing is helping and she is in such a state.
Has anyone got any other ideas that they've found helpful?
Thanks in advance.

My child had this when he was about 2. It was so awful. God I remember it so clearly (3 years ago) it looked like he'd been horrendously burnt all over his face. The doctor promised it would be ok and it was. I remember we had a very military operation with piriton and calpol in very regular doses. It was so bad I went back to the emergency doctor as it was like nothing I had seen or heard of before. But to be fair to them they were right, it did go. I think we had some cream to stop it getting infected (same cream given for impetigo) but I don't remember the name. It was awful to see him like that. But it did totally heal up. For several weeks you could still see marks but after a few more there was not a trace on the face. Weirdly some scabs around the wrists took a further month to go which was odd as they weren't anything compared to the face.

I am really sorry. I know it can be so awful and it's not even one you hear about as being so bad. I guess some kids are just unlucky with it.

It does clear up though, even though it looks as though it will scar for life!

Thanks so much for your reply! I really appreciate it, and it does reassure although I am just finding it so hard to accept I can't get rid of it for her.

I'll ask the pharmacist tomorrow about the cream thanks. We've been using calpol and piriton, but not as religiously as we could.

This takes me back. I remember nights of groaning. I think I did calpol and ibuprofen alternating. Hang in there xxx

Piriton may help settle her. The cream may be fucidin which I believe is a POM so need to see doctor. I don't think it will help short term though. You are doing the right things and this, too, shall pass WineFlowers
