Is a crooked smile anything to worry about?

I first noticed my sons crooked smile when he was about 4m old, as he gets older and smiles more it's getting more noticeable!

He's not walking yet so I suppose I'm picking up on little things, he's 16m so well within the normal age range. He sticks one foot to the side if he walks holding my hands which is niggling at me. He prefers to bum shuffle than walk which is probably why he's not doing it yet, but I can't help but worry! Is the crooked smile something of nothing?

I don't know whether it could be an issue but just a bit of reassurance- my DD had a crooked smile until she was about 2.5 and then grew out of it. It coincided with her speech really taking off so I wonder if it was to do with strengthening her jaw and facial muscles.

That is reassuring, thanks! Did her smile always appear crooked or was it every so often? Sometimes my son smiles normally so I did wonder if it's just something he likes doing. It's strange how it's always the same side that's crooked.

I didn't initially really notice it until I saw photos and it was obvious so no, not all the time. When she laughed really heartily you could see it quite clearly.

I’m not a doctor so no expert but my dp and two of my dc have crooked smiles and they’re all perfectly healthy so I wouldn’t worry too much.

I wouldn’t worry about the walking either. My nephew didn’t start even trying to walk until he was about 20m.
His parents were really worried as sil has hip problems but they were told it’s not a concern unless they still aren’t walking at 2yo.

If they bum shuffle then they typically are later to walk as they don't have the need to walk in the same way as they're already upright.

Not sure on the crooked smile. It probably is worth getting it checked out, as I think anything that is noticeably unsymmetrical is, but probably is nothing and just him.
