Posting as saw some suggestions in another thread about a toddler with a possibly distended stomach, but don't want to hijack it.

My 2 year olds tummy gets quite distended looking and I was surprised by the replies on the other thread expressing concern as everyone has always said my toddlers tummy looks fine. We think he has cows milk protein intolerance as his previous symptoms of 4+ very soft but painful to pass stools and sore bum stopped when we cut it out.

However he has some other 'symptoms' still.
He sweats enormously at night. Hair is soaked literally within minutes even if no cover just light pyjamas.

His poo just still doesn't seem right to me, it's usually only once a day now but it's enormous (often comes out of nappy and down legs as there's so much) it's very very soft, verging on diarrhoea really, but often has undigested food in. It also smells very strong and has a couple of times smelled like burning rubber (just like when a hoover belt breaks).
He is small for his age, in either 9-12 or 12-18 clothes despite being 27 months now. Weight just below 9th centile. He is hungry all the time and seems to enjoy his food (which he didnt before we cut dairy)

Based on the other post I'm now wondering about gluten though he doesn't eat much with gluten in. The milk ladder has been hard to follow as he seems to get uncomfortable but then most items on that can be things like pancakes etc which will have flour in too. I've been adding cows milk to his porridge ocasionally and that appears to be fine so maybe it's been wheat based things that have caused the discomfort.

Does any of that sound like gluten sensitivity/coeliac? He really doesn't eat gluten often at all which may be making it mild. It's his poo that bothers me most it really doesn't seem normal.

I'd definitely ask for him to be tested. You need to still be eating gluten though for the tests to pick it up, so don't exclude it any further. Coeliac damages the bowel lining and can cause secondary lactose intolerance. So the reaction to dairy could actually be a red herring. Once the bowel heals it is possible to go back to dairy.
