6 month old with bronchiolitis

Baby got diagnosed with bronchiolitis on Wednesday after she started wheezing heavily. They told me they weren't overly concerned at this stage but to watch her and seek further advice if things change. She seemed a lot better during the day yesterday and wasn't too bad during Thursday. But last night she was coughing on and off throughout the night. She's happy enough in herself - smiling. Perhaps not taking as much milk at every feed (she's BF so it's hard to know). Anyone got any experience with this? I'm just not sure exactly when I do need to go back. She's in her cot now sucking her thumb happy as can be but I'm worried about her getting worse later.

They do cough a lot more at night, that's with all coughs and chest infections.
Having said that, as she is so little do take her back in if you are worried about her.

Prepare for her to go down a dip, they do seem to get worse and worse until they suddenly pull round.

From the top of my head warning signs to seek urgent medical attention are:
Chest pulling in when breathing
Lack of wet nappies
Struggle to wake them up.

Hope she feels better soon. Both mine had it at that age and it was awful to watch.

If I remember correctly, the illness peaks at about day 5, so that's when it's at it's worst. My son had it a few times and was hospitalised at 5 weeks and 2yo.

He was quite poorly and had a chest infection the 2nd time, too.
If you feel she needs more attention take her in but if she's well and not uncomfortable, I'd try and manage at home.
Hope she feels better soon

Ah it's so nerve-wracking when the are so tiny and poorly. I hope she is better soon.
For most babies getting bronchiolitis with each virus bug that goes around is something they grow out of as their lungs get stronger. For some it can develop into an asthma-like condition triggered by each cold that can range from mild to quite serious (needing hospital treatment) but is then grown out of at around age 4 or 5.

Try to not worry to much - like you said the doctors aren't especially concerned they just want you to keep an eye out for changes. Any time you feel worried trust your instincts and take her in for a same-day appointment where they can listen to her chest and check her blood-oxygen level. I lost count of the number of times I did this and was told everything was fine - but they don't mind one bit checking. It's not a waste of time to check and find that all is well. For us, on the umpteenth such occasion the checks found that DC's blood oxygen level was dangerously low and the doctor called an ambulance and arranged immediate hospital treatment and everything was fine.

For the vast majority of kids a crisis like that will never happen, so don't obsess about it. Just stay vigilant for changes that seem unusual and trust your instincts.

Thank you so much for your replies. It's really helpful to hear from others who have experienced this.

Try propping head end of cot up when sleeping, feed little and often, breathing and sucking is so much more difficult, also a large feed can make work of breathing worse, it does tend to get worse at day 5-7 some babies manage fine but if you're worried call dr or ooh service for your area
It's scary when they're so small 2 of mine had it but luckily no admission to hospital
