DD has smelly privates

DD is nearly 4 and pretty much independent when going to the toilet, I know when they're young they don't always wipe properly but we always remind her to wipe front to back and use the unsented sensitive toddler wipes we buy for her but on and off she will say she's got 'sore bits' and when I check she looks sore a bit just on the inside of her labia going down to her bottom with quite a bad smell and sometimes she has a tiny bit of dried discharge in her underwear. I've taken her to the doctors a couple of times and they just give me some of the external cannistan thrush cream to put on her which I can't tell if it helps or not as the problem is sort of on and off. They've tested her wee for infection which came back clear, we only use a small amount of sensitive baby bath to wash her once a day and she drinks lots of water throughout the day and I've only ever used non bio washing liquid for her clothes, despite this it seems to be happening more and more and the smell is there every day. Sorry for the long post just wondering if anyone knows what else could be causing it.

I would stop using the wipes and just get her to use toilet paper.

HorridHenryrule · 14/09/2017 18:44

Stop using wet wipes you're better of giving her a bath every night if you're that worried. Only water should go down there to clean it.

FeralBeryl · 14/09/2017 21:10

Yep - almost certainly the wipes. I can't use them either as I suffer the and problem Sad even the unperfumed ones.
Just sit her in a plain bath each night instead, and make sure she's drying herself properly.

MadameJosephine · 14/09/2017 21:22

My DD was similar. I would stop
using the wipes and bathe her in plain water. Put a thin layer of sudocrem on if it gets sore

moobeana · 14/09/2017 21:49

My dd occasionally gets this. It's from not wiping well enough in the rush at school.

I just put metanium on it when it gets red or sore, (she tells me, I don't go looking for it). Works a treat!

sprite25 · 15/09/2017 14:41

Thanks for the replies, I have tried to get her to use just tissue in the past but when she has a poo she says it's too dry and makes her bum sore so is quite reluctant to use it, even just for having a wee

Give her a bath then she has to learn how to use toilet paper or suffer with more trips to the doctor.

butteredbarmbrack · 15/09/2017 14:44

You could try getting some of the toilet paper that sells itself as quilted, extra soft etc and make a bit of a show about how great and gentle it is, wean her into just using toilet paper that way?

sprite25 · 15/09/2017 14:57

HorridHenryrule is there something about this thread that has annoyed you?

She might need a steroid cream op. It's easy to get an infection in that area in his warmer weather. Also , and I know you probably have checked this , make sure she's changing her underwear daily. My dd used to sat she was changing but kept forgetting!

SisterMoonshine · 15/09/2017 15:10

My DD gets this too - and we're going into tights season soon too Sad
I haven't found an answer yet. Sometimes use the canisten. Sometimes the sudocreme. It comes and goes.

regularbutpanickingabit · 15/09/2017 15:13

Please stop using the wipes. Even if it says unscented on the packet, they can still be major irritants.
I would put a small plastic bowl in the bathroom and get her to put some warm water in it before she goes the loo. Then get her using cotton wool pads dipped in the water and squeezed out to wipe herself for now. I would use two - one to clean and one to freshen up. It will be more comfortable than toilet paper whilst the area heals. Use some nappy sacks for her to put the cotton wool into and throw in a bin.

moreismore · 15/09/2017 15:13

Could you try using some cloth wet wipes like cheeky wipes? Fairly easy to make yourself for a trial..

MissWitch · 15/09/2017 15:22

I agree with other posters that it could be the wipes. You could try wetting a bit of toilet paper instead. Is she wiping correctly (front to back)? Are her knickers the correct size and made from cotton (too small/synthetic fabric can cause irritation)?
Is she still smelly after having a bath? If so I'd make another GP appointment as it could be an infection and she may need something other than external cream.

OutandIntoday · 15/09/2017 15:30

I think you need to phase out wipes not just because they are probably the culprit. There won't be any at school and you don't want going for a wee and there only being loo roll to be an issue for her.

Viviennemary · 15/09/2017 15:33

Is she having showers or baths. Daily baths will certainly help. And phase out wipes as they may be an irritant. And also wipe with clean warm water and dry with towel specially for that purpose. And make sure you are using non bio powder for underwear.

SuburbanRhonda · 15/09/2017 15:39

Off topic but I hope you aren't putting baby wipes down the toilet!

Also, this might be a good time to get her used to using toilet paper in advance of starting school next year.

reallyanotherone · 15/09/2017 15:39

Tights aren't compulsory? I have two teen dd's and neither they nor I have ever been in a situation where there is no other option.

Perfectly1mperfect · 15/09/2017 17:06

Could you get her some water wipes, instead of toddler wipes. They have less chemicals as they can be used on newborns. You shouldn't flush them though. x
