Hi ladies, would really appreciate your advice....

My ds9 woke up with this on his upper arm this morning and it's freaked out!

It's like a blister, balloon type form, 1cm across, painful as is the skin around it. Pic below.

Thanks

I'd book a gp appt to get it checked - probably nothing but worth getting someone to look

Has he been gardening, or playing in the woods/on rough ground?

It looks to me like a hogweed reaction - traces of the plants sap plus sunlight can cause some people's skins to blister. Obviously though you need to be in contact w the plant for that ti be the case.

Oh yes have heard about Hogweed, it's possible he was in the woods Sunday but no blister til today?

OH ended up taking him to GP who said reaction to TB vacc or insect bite. OH apparently didn't know DS hasn't just had his BCG Hmm and don't think he mentioned Lyme disease.. Anyhow we have antibiotics now...

Thanks

Hi @colouringinagain I know it has been a while but just wondered if you had any other episodes of this since your original post? My 6 year year old daughter has had 2 blister/wounds very similar to this which appeared spontaneously 1 year apart from each other approx. (first in Nov 2022, 2nd in Dec 2023). The first was on her arm which was quite nasty, got infected once it burst, took a long time to heal and left a nasty scar. It got investigated but it was a mystery and was put down to a one off and possibly a mysterious bite of some kind. Overall it took 3 months to heal. However she has a second one now on her knee, almost identical to the first in size/shape but this one has not got infected so far and although slow to heal, it isn't as bad as the first one. We have had blood tests and swabs etc and nothing obvious has been found. She is generally fit and well otherwise. But the Consultant Dermatologist she is under and others just can't diagnose it at the moment- the closest thing it could be we think is Mastocytosis but the symptoms just don't seem typical of that. Also, one of her blood tests for tryptase which she had last year (and may have provided more insight) went missing so we had those re-done yesterday which will take at least a couple of months to come back. Possibility it is some kind of mast cell / autoimmune issue as this latest time she had her flu spray the day before which could have been coincidence but it's the only thing we have to go on at the moment. It's strange that it was almost exactly a year apart which makes me think it could also be something seasonal/viral. Our priority is to manage this one to heal well and have a better course of action if another occurs in the future. It is quite concerning this is the 2nd now and the recovery time is quite upsetting for her although she isn't really complaining. We are now armed with antibiotics, creams, and antihistamine for possible future episodes to get on top of it straight away and the doctor has said it will unfortunately be a bit of trial and error to narrow it down to either an infection/viral issue or an autoimmune issue but we won't really know until we've tried each measure in turn. Apologies for the long post but just asking if you have any other intelligence on this from your experience as it is really difficult to find anything online anywhere that is similar to our experience - your post and photo is the first I've found that sounds similar.

hi @adugg82 I'm sorry I don't have anything useful to add really. It only happened once, GP prescribed antibiotics and ds has a small scar on his arm as a souvenir... I guess you could search google images for Mast.... blisters or post in general health... hope your dd makes a good recovery and you get some answers soon 💐
