Anyone know anything about stammering?

Over the last couple of months, my (just) 8yo dd has begun to repeat words in her sentences. e.g. "I, I, I, I, went, went, went to the, the, the, the shop". She talks very fast and so far doesn't seem at all bothered by this. However, it's now happening virtually every time she says anything.

I know this is reasonably common for younger kids, but it seems unusual for someone her age. Has anyone had a child who has experienced this? If so, what did you do? And do you think I should be trying to get her to see a speech therapist? And how do you actually go about this anyway?

Should grow out of it but if it gets worse get them to breathe if they stammer and start again

Actually, it is better to not draw attention to it by making remarks or making the child stop and do something like 'breathe' etc. You should seek advice from a speech therapist. The British Stammering Association has good advice www.stammering.org/
It may well disappear off again in a few weeks.
Keep your face pleasant and relaxed. Try not to remark on it and ask others to do the same. Try to provide a relaxed atmosphere for the child, without too much stress or rushing around. Do not question the child continuously or put pressure on the speech etc, nor ask them 'tell Nana what happened at school today' etc.
