Different types of Desmopressin?

10yo ds is still in pull-ups at night. Often he overflows. Desmopressin don't work particularly well on him.

The continence nurse has suggested he try Desmomelts instead. I've seen via Google that there is also a desmopressin nasal spray, but the patient info does not mention night-time bedwetting in children.

Have any of your dc used the spray?

Do any of you have experience with a child not responding to the tablets, but responding better to a different form?

We've had desmomelts and they do seem to work - not always but better than nothing.

I would try him out of pull ups though...if you can cope for a few days. That was the best move we made!

I've also heard hypnosis works but I am Mrs sceptical so haven't tried it!

TotalUnknown · 08/09/2017 18:51

We have tried. The alarm, too. No joy.

I've not considered hypnosis before. Why not? Can't do any harm.

Shall try the Desmomelts this week.

Has anyone used the spray, or had different results with different forms of the stuff?

We tried the alarm and my ds slept right through it. We used desomelts for several years, the highest dose and they worked most of the time.

Have you been referred to a paediatric urologist? If Desmo not working then your gp should be sending you to see a specialist. We had same issue and saw PU - all sorted within 6 months or so with DS off all medication. Good luck

Kit30 · 08/09/2017 19:26

PS pu didn't recommend alarm or hypnosis or other versions of desm, other medication entirely

TotalUnknown · 08/09/2017 19:59

Please tell me more, Kit30!

Was it Oxybutinin, by any chance?

I have desmopression nasal spray, but it is for my clotting disorder!
I use if before dental extractions or minor operations. Or if I slice my hand in a broken wine glass (no I never did that!)!

As I understand it the nasal spray is not for bed wetting as it is fast acting. But I have very little understanding of it.

Desmomelts was what was initially prescribed for ds and hasn't worked except that there he is less wet, i.e. he still is wet every night but less volume iyswim.

StepAwayFromCake · 09/09/2017 13:35

We tried the Desmomelts last night. Was difficult to get him to take them, apparently they taste rank and the taste lingers.

Didn't work. He still overflowed his pull-up.

Desomelt takes up to a week to work properly according to the pharmacist

StepAwayFromCake · 09/09/2017 22:54

I got him to take it again tonight, but I had to bribe him with chocolate. Chocolate! At bedtime! How my standards have slipped.
