15 month old daughter balance has changed

Last few days I've noticed a change in my dd physically. She started walking properly from 12 months and is a confident walker; she loves dancing and running. Last few days I've noticed she keeps falling backwards a lot. Also she's very wobbly and when she runs she keeps tilting her head to the one side. She's fine in herself, talking loads lately and playing happily, eating etc. Her balance seems really bad which I would say it's her age she's wobbly but she's never been like it before. I took her to the doctors as i thought it may be a ear infection but it's not and the doctor didn't have any concerns. She looks like she was a twitch sometimes too. Anyone else toddler behaves like this as it's worrying me?

Go back.
See another GP.
Dont be fobbed off.

MadameJosephine · 05/09/2017 20:47

Go with your instinct, if you are worried go back and ask for a second opinion

PinkFluffyFairy · 05/09/2017 20:50

Agree with PPs to go back to GPs and to trust your instinct. X

furryelephant · 05/09/2017 20:58

Yes, definitely keep going back until you have an answer or it gets better to be honest. If it gets markedly worse I'd actually go to A&E to be honest.

Could she be having a growth spurt? Could be that she's suddenly shooting upwards and her brain is trying to catch up if that makes senseSmile

Jemma2307 · 05/09/2017 21:12

Thank you everyone they have made me another appointment for next week with the same doctor she said to keep an eye on it this week but she doesn't think there's anything wrong. Furryelephant that's what my partner thinks it is and I hope that's just what it is.

Take videos of her and show gp

Jemma2307 · 05/09/2017 22:25

That's a good idea might try it before I see her next

Mine has done this a couple of times, coinciding with growth spurts. Lasted maybe a week before he became steady again.

Jemma2307 · 06/09/2017 08:51

Thanks that's what I hope is going on. Glad that she isn't the only one doing it lol

Take a video of her walking now and every week and monitor.
If it worsens over a few weeks get referral to a paediatrician.

Pigoon · 06/09/2017 22:31

I wouldn't wait and monitor for a few weeks.
Chances are this is nothing, but changes out of the blue like this really should be thoroughly checked quickly.

cestlavielife · 06/09/2017 23:08

She has. Been Checked by gp.
If there is nothing obvious to gp in a week then showing change over a few weeks - if there is a change - will boost case for referral.

cestlavielife · 06/09/2017 23:11

Also video the twitches. Show gp.
Ask about seizures . That Might persuade gp to refer.
If anything dramatic straight to a and e.

Jemma2307 · 07/09/2017 11:02

Thankyou yeah ill keep an eye on it. I've recorded some of it but she doesn't do it all the time so by the time.i Get my phone out she's stopped lol I'm seeing gp Tuesday so I'll show her then. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse.

Jemma2307 · 07/09/2017 11:03

Thank you she has been seen by the gp I've got to go back on Tuesday so I'll see what she days then. Luckily it hasn't gotten any worse anyways.

Make sure you watch her closely and listen to your gut instinct.

If her symptoms worsen or she shows other symptoms (being sick in the morning, increased and unusual tiredness) then take her straight to A&E.

You are her advocate and know your daughter best so if you are not happy with what gp says then push for another gp.

Hope it all amounts to nothing.

Jemma2307 · 07/09/2017 15:21

Thank you she seems a bit better today so I'll see how she's goes.

I've just read this. hopefully she's okay now and its just one of those things small children do.
If not, please don't rule out an eye problem, a head tilt/ balance problems could mean an eye muscle issue, she's too little to be seen by an high street practice, but if she's still having issues maybe ask for a referral to paediatric ophthalmology.
