Excessive sweating

DS is 15 weeks old and has always been a clammy baby regardless of what he wears and the room/outdoor temperature. He gets rather sweaty in his car seat but seems ok in his 0.5 tog sleeping bag at night and for naps.

I've just got him prepped for his bath. I put him on his changing mat in just his nappy while waiting for bath to run. When I went to pick him up his back was dripping with sweat, the back and side of his head was soaking and so was the changing mat. He wasn't hot to the touch. At first I though he had been sick but it was clear fluid with no smell, it was like some one had poured water over him. I guess I'm just shocked at the amount of sweat there was Sad.

I'm going to make a GP appointment to get him checked over. I don't think I will get much sleep tonight as I will be constantly checking on him.

Also just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with young babies.

Hi Rice Butt, one of mine was very sweaty but this is often a feature of babies with his medical condition (which has very obvious and major symptoms - so don't worry that it might be this!)

My son's condition also leaves him prone to low blood sugar episodes and doctors have sometimes suggested the sweatiness might be down to that, but to me the sort of clamminess that comes with low blood sugar was different to his regular 'drenched in sweat' state, if that makes sense? I also tested his blood sugar a couple of times when he was very sweaty and it was fine.

I guess what I'm saying is it was just a feature of my son, and to our knowledge, harmless. It was quite alarming though. As you say, head and hair absolutely soaked, and the sheet underneath him. He grew out of it by toddlerhood, if I remember rightly.

Sorry for waffly answer. Maybe someone a bit more knowledgeable will come along soon!

Thank you for your thoughts @LatinForTelly.

Just got back from GP. Had him checked over and as he is alert and happy with no other symptoms then they have no concerns. Just need to keep an eye on him and keep him cool and suitably dressed.
