Asthma triggers? Hot weather and humidity?

Just back from a holiday in Southern Europe where temperatures were between 30 & 35 every day and 60% humidity. DS, aged nine, has not had an asthma attack for seven years but was really wheezy whilst we were away. It got better when we were in hotels with air con but not in our villa. He was better the day before we went home but then took ill on the flight (tightness and sick) resulting in me asking for oxygen as ventolin was not working.

I have an appointment with the GP tonight. He has only been using ventolin once per month up until this episode and has not been seen by the respiratory nurses since he was two.

Any advice or suggestions from other people whose children have asthma and similar triggers.

Thanks

It can definitely be a trigger. I hope the GP can get him back on track and you don't have to go to A&E.

We have visited the GP and he has checked his chest and no signs of any issues. Also 98% oxygen levels. GP suggested we use his ventolin until night time cough stops and if not to return to the surgery.

Son seems better tonight but I will be more cautious when flying and like the suggestion of a diary to identify triggers. We know he has hay fever (grass pollen) but Zirtek made no difference on holiday suggesting another trigger.

It seems it a case of trying to identify his triggers.

This is his first 'attack' since 2010 and GP seemed to think that the combination of heat and the build up over the week and then poor oxygen levels in cabin made the attack happen, Fortunately the oxygen helped.

Any other experiences would be helpful as it is such a worry! X

Glad he seems ok now and he's been given the once over.
