Low blood sugar/diabetes ?

Ds10 suffers from migraines probably about once a month and is really poorly with them, throws up for hours if not caught really quickly.

Today following a random conversation about depression and anxiety he told me that when a migraine comes on he feels really sweaty, gets really anxious and gets cramp then the migraine starts.

I didn't realise he had the symptoms of anxiety and sweating. Could this be diabetes rather than migraines?
I will be making a gp appt but currently on holiday. Should I get a blood tester from chemist or just wait to see gp

Diabetes is high blood sugar, not low.

Also feeling anxious and sweaty before a migraine starts is normal for a migraine - migraine is much more than a headache. Lots of migraineurs can give you lists of weird symptoms they get all across their bodies associated with their migraines.

Finally, diabetes in children is generally type 1 - he wouldn't have been getting better after each episode if this was untreated diabetes, he would have been getting steadily more and more poorly and be in hospital by now.

So please don't buy a blood tester but do see the GP to talk about your worries.

Sounds like abdominal migraine to me

In fact, if he knows the anxiety/sweating/cramp is the start of the migraine - this is a good thing as it means you can give him his migraine meds earlier and hopefully stave off the whole headache and all the hideous vomiting.

As you get to know your migraines better, you realise a lot of symptoms go with them and get better at identifying the start.

Thank you hulder that's really helpful.

I will make a gp appt
