Talk to me about allergic reactions (pics in thread)

DD (2.10) has came out in an allergic reaction rash covering her torso, arms and thighs. I've attached some pictures to show how it's developed over the last few days, it started 4 days ago and is getting worse. Doctor has prescribed piriton which has really helped (when i can get her to take it!!) but it doesn't stop more spots/rash from developing.

There are 3 potential things o can think of that may have caused it:

Co op nappies which she wears at night (the rash started along the waist band of the nappy)

Co op wipes

Bio detergent powder on her sheets.

The first 2 I've been using for 3 weeks - could it take a couple weeks for a reaction to occur? And would it cause a rash on other parts of the body that the nappies/wipes wouldn't be touching?

I washed her sheets the day before the rash appeared so this is most likely - although I've used bio liquid with no reaction before. Also, again, would it cause a rash where it's not touching? (Her thighs, for example)

Any other suggestions?? She's not eaten anything different and has never had a reaction to anything like this before Sad

With dd the hives came and went for about a week. Being out in sunlight seemed to trigger them - maybe the heat ?

SleepForTheWeek · 27/08/2017 22:45

We live on the west coat of Scotland - definitely not the heat 😉

At what point do I take her back to the doctors?

If she doesn't like piriton, you could ask other ones instead. Some taste nicer than others.
Also even same detergent can change formula to cause reactions.(Happened to my ds.)
Also some food can has delayed reaction.
If it's not going away, she may have developed new allergy to something as well. Also some environmental allergy can develop due to exposure, like house dust/pollen allergies.

FWIW heat dosn't help once i got an attack no Pirition around but it was a cold day, a walk outside sans coat that seemed to slow it up!

The immune system over reaction to a virus (not viral rashes) that my kids had lasted two to six weeks. Blotches moved around body. Otherwise well. How long it lasted was, iirc, one of the reasons why it wasn't thought to be an acute allergic reaction to anything.

Applesandpears56 · 29/08/2017 19:54

How do you hide prition in a cucumber?!
You are using the children's liquid yes not the adult tablets???

Applesandpears56 · 29/08/2017 20:01

And the prition itself can cause a rash/hives as a side effect

Are you sure it isn't sonething that she has been eating. I broke out in hives like that after suddenly developing an allergy to gold top milk. My DS has a similar reaction when greats some nuts. Any stomach pain?

youarenotkiddingme · 29/08/2017 20:15

Tomatoes are extremely high in histamine.
If she's eating too many that can cause this reaction as her histamine levels may rise.

Ds reacted to some tomato products and had such a severe reaction one day to something his face swelled and he was issued an epipen.

Have a look at high histamine foods and try to limit the number and amount of those she eats.

SleepForTheWeek · 29/08/2017 21:05

@Applesandpears56 she eats massive chunks of cucumber so I cut a thin strip lengthways and then packed in tablet (crushed into a fine powder - she's taking 1/4 an adult tablet as the liquid makes her sick)

Her rash seems a lot better today, not sure if it's the piriton kicking in or the fact she's not had tomatoes for a couple days 🤔

I'll look at high histamine foods, thank you

Over eating certain kind of food is very dangerous, indeed. My dsis developed fatal allergy to mango after eating a lot over the years. Now hint of mango chutney in curry could kill her.

SleepForTheWeek · 30/08/2017 02:22

She was only having a couple of cherry tomatoes a day, it wasn't an overwhelming amount but she went a couple months without eating them so who knows.

She's now eating a whole raw carrot as a snack most days now too although it's hard to figure out how much would quantify an overdose
