Temperature for 5 days that won't go down

My dd is 28 months. She's had a temp for 5 days now. Called 111 second day as she was looking very ill. They decided ambulance was needed. Hospital said she's probably got virus. Sent us home. Today she woke up absolutely shivering. A little longer she would have had a seizure I think. Called ambulance they came and said her lips looks slightly blue tinged too. But put it down virus as she was given calpol and her temp went down while they were here. But I still feel something is not quiet right. Should I go to GP in the morning. We are going away for a week to Haven in Dorset tomorrow as well. Really worried as to what to do. Anyone had anything like this ?

Yes. I think there is something else going on. I will call out of hours to see if they can give me an appointment for now. Otherwise a&e. SadSad so bloody tired. Haven't slept in days.

If you're worried, go now. She's still a baby so hopefully they'll see her quickly.

I don't want to be alarmist either, and there's very possibility that it is just a virus but it could be an infection of some sort and little ones can deteriorate quite quickly.

Please also take a minute to check the symptoms of sepsis and if she develops any two or more of them, get her to A&E without delay and ask them to check. Sorry, am super-vigilant about it as I had it and was very lucky it was caught early.

missjulia · 20/08/2017 22:31

To be honest, if you are equidistant from both then I'd just take her to A&E. Here, if you present at OOH with a very poorly child then they just send you straight to the children's hospital anyway!

YouRat · 20/08/2017 22:31

Ear thermometer. But have also had it measured under her arm. I also thought Kawasaki but as she didn't have all the symptoms I thought it unlikely. But will ask them to check this.

Get her to paed A&E asap. I wouldn't mess around with 111 / OOH.

YouRat · 20/08/2017 22:34

Ok. Have decided to go to a&e. Thank you all

Let us know how you get on @rat - hope it's just a "nothing" virus, and your DDs just putting you through your paces. Thinking of you.

missjulia · 20/08/2017 22:36

Let us know how you get on. It is most likely just a virus but always better to get checked especially with a tiny.

MillieMoodle · 20/08/2017 22:49

Hope she is ok and it's nothing to worry about; let us know how you get on.

KakunaRattata · 20/08/2017 22:54

Having a child who has just had childhood pneumonia I'm hoping yours doesn't have it, though the symptoms are sounding very similar. Please insist on a chest xray, we were sent home without one despite doctor requesting and it was really bad by the time he did get one. Hope she's ok.

KentMum2008 · 20/08/2017 22:55

Glad you've decided on A&E OP. I'm surprised they haven't checked her urine, when DD was a baby she had similar symptoms. We ended up at A&E and after they'd ruled everything else out they decided to check her urine. It took 3 hours to get a sample but hey wouldn't let us home until they'd checked it. It wasn't a urine infection but the doctor said better to be safe than sorry.

MrsMotherHen · 20/08/2017 22:58

i was going to say A and E just seen your update now hope everything goes ok. Flowers

Rachie1986 · 20/08/2017 23:01

Hope you get seen quickly and everything's ok x

TheMogget · 20/08/2017 23:19

I wondered about Sepsis too. Hope they check her out and all is ok.
Trust your instincts, you know her best.

YouRat · 21/08/2017 04:38

Dd has really bad tonsillitis. Just took a swab of her throat to see if it isn't anything nastier.
Thank you all for replying so quick and with some great advice. Wouldn't have come today if it was as for you guys.

You need to go tot he doctors, they'll probably give you some nappy wee bags they're awful but you definitely need a sample - my DD had what doctors thought was swine flu but it was uti - she actually has kidney reflux and is prone to uti but we didn't realise this at the time

flumpybear · 21/08/2017 04:47

Just seen update - if it's bacterial she needs antibiotics
Good luck

YouRat · 21/08/2017 05:35

Just got home from hospital. They said Its very likely bacterial and gave her a course of antibiotics (penicillin).

Glad you've found out what's going on. Hope your DD feels better soon.

highinthesky · 21/08/2017 06:53

Glad you sought help at the right time! Hope DD responds fast, keep checking on her regularly.

MillieMoodle · 21/08/2017 07:31

Glad you took her and got it checked. Hope your DD is feeling better soon and hope you're not too tired. Brew for you and ice cream for your DD!

YouRat · 21/08/2017 14:47

Thank you all. She's still has high temp but the doc said the antibiotics will take 48 hours to kick in.
