My son was absolutely fine until last week on Monday when he woke up with a fever. Gave him Calpol but it didn't bring the temperature down, so we ended up going to the GP and they said to alternate Calpol and Nurofen as he has a viral infection. I did that and on Wednesday his fever went down but on Wednesday evening, he started getting spots and then all of a sudden overnight he broke out in welts and hives everywhere which were extremely itchy and he was inconsolably crying and scratching himself and was just so distressed. GP said it is post viral rash. Lukewarm bath and aqueous cream did not work! He was prescribed Piriton which is what I have been giving him morning and evening. His hives still keep coming back and no signs of going down or going away... and I am at the end of my tether cos it is becoming unbearable for him as well as for me as none of us are getting any sleep! I cleaned the flat top to bottom and changed his bedding. Is this most likely post viral rash? He (as far as I know), is not allergic to absolutely anything! He eats fine but his milk intake has gone down dramatically... he no longer interested in milk now. Nothing has changed (always used the same non bio washing powder and we don't use fabric conditioner as I have allergies). Xxx

My DD gets this after a virus. Piriton helps a bit. They usually come and go for about a week or so before disappearing.

Children can become temporarily lactose intolerant after illnesses - might be worth considering trying lactose free milk if other things don't work. You'd have to cut out dairy from his solids for a few weeks too though.
