Hi , my lol has just turned 4 and had a fall at the park Tuesday just gone -he was very upset and complained of his shoulder hurting so we went home he seemed ok until half an hour later complained of a headache. I gave him some calpol and water and he threw up straight away-he's been sick once before after calpol so thought maybe disagreed with him or tummy bug. He was then sick in the night and first thing - he then told me he'd hit his head at the park, I didn't see him fall but from what he was playing on I can see how he would have fallen forward and landed on his head 😬🙄 (I wish he'd told me sooner - s my eyes on 2 yo at the time -feel incredibly guilty!) anyway took him straight to a & e they gave him a CT scan all looked ok but sickness due to brain injury -which is such a more frightening term they use at hospital for concussion. All really awful and scary so he's had a quiet week at home following that. But.. he seems to have really heightened emotions - really intense and upset over trivial things that wouldn't usually bother him. What I'm asking is if anyone has had any similar experience with this sort of thing??, I had a look on google but frightened the F out of myself reading about severe brain alterations following a blow to the head and personality changes etc - god I hate Google. I'll probably give the doc we see a call Monday and see what he thinks. He's fine the rest of the time -his usual jovial noisy crazy self , just such a massive reaction with real tears to things he'd normally brush off. No horror stories tho please, it's late and as I said I've already scared myself looking online. I've got 2 really boisterous and daring darling boys so no doubt lots more bumps and scrapes to come

Also he may have been scared with the hospital etc and he's acting out because he can't formulate what's bothering him

It will pass - stay calm and be reassuring - and drop the guilt - it happens to us all

I had concussion a few years ago and it really affected my emotions for about three weeks - to the point that I couldn't cope with loud/crowded places e.g. a supermarket! It was so awful and different to my usual personality. Time and some really quite weeks at home (I had to be signed off work) healed me. It may well not be this and just a four year old freaked out by hospital like PP said, but I thought I'd share my experience in case it seemed to make sense. I had no lasting impact - back to normal after a few weeks.

Thanks for that it's reassuring - he was ok with all the hospital stuff (I think) all a bit of a novelty but yes going to try and keep it chill at home for the next couple of weeks before he starts school -my baby 😭

I remember going up see my GP after a week as I was absolutely terrified I would never het back to normal - but I did, and your son will too, it might just take a week or two. Flowers My three year old starts school next year and already I am dreading it!

A friend of mine got a concussion and had to take 4 weeks off work - she was so emotional and stressed and she works in customer service. She couldn't cope with it at all.

My son had concussion last year when he was 10 after a fall at school. He was sick on and off for about a week and had to have a scan. He was very tired and was going to bed a lot earlier than normal. He was also very emotional for a while. His symptoms lasted a few weeks but gradually got better. No lasting effects.
