Posterior Fontanelle 6 week checkup

Hi, I just need a bit of advice really as can not see any posts that answer my question. Our 6 week old went for her 6 week checkup today and the GP told my partner that baby's posterior fontanelle has not fused yet like it should and so for the next 4 weeks she is not allowed to sleep on her back. Obviously sleeping on her front is a big no no these days so what we supposed to do. Hold her on her side? Just does not make any sense to me especially when I am reading that the posterior fontanelle closes between 6-12 weeks.

We are waiting for a call back from the HV to see what she says. She checked her over yesterday and said all was fine with her. Doctor even said she is under weight when for weeks we have been told by mw and hv that she is just above average...

Anyone else had similar advice?

No that sounds very odd. Second opinion?

We ended up calling NHS direct as our HV didn't get back to us and they had a midwife on duty and she said she can not understand why jlthe GP has mentioned it as it can be upto 3months for it to close and as for not laying her on her back, unless she is sleeping on a bed of spikes, the rear fontanelle is small and will be protected by the bones around it.

She said usually they would never contradict a GP as they do an impossible job but what he told us is a load of rubbish and strongly advised against trying to get a 6 week old to sleep on there side or front.
