My dd has a temp of 39degrees, gave her calpol half hour ago but could onlyget half the dose down her.

Shes asleep now but moaning/groaning.

Do I ring 111,
wait until the morning and ring docs
do something else?

she only has on a light top and knickers with a sheet over her.

A little worried butni don't know if im being over anxious.

Any advice is greatly appreciated

How old is she? Does she have any other symptoms? Depending on the answers to those questions, you can alternate ibroprufen with calpol to bring her temp down.
If you're worried, call 111. They'll be able to advise you.
For reference my DC had a temp of 39 a few months ago. Calpol didn't make any difference at first. Then they developed a rash. I called 111 and they told us to go to the GP the next day. It turned out it was strep and they needed antibiotics.

How old is your dd? You say u have already given her some calpol leave her rest for 40 mins from time you give her it then retake her temp if it hasnt gone down id give the hosp a ring to get advice, inean time try a wet flannel on her head to bring her tempeture down & make sure she has plenty of fluids xx

Tepid sponging (a damp cloth on the skin) is no longer recommended under NICE guidelines. Has her temperature come down since the paracetamol and where on her body are you taking her temperature?

pinkiepie1 · 16/08/2017 02:18

She turned 4 last month.
No no other signs checked hands and feet just now both as hot as the rest of her body.
No rash either.

Only thing is that shes hard to wake up cos she said she's tired, but that's normal for her so dont know whether to class that as a symptom or not.
Shes snoring well and it isnt struggling to breathe.

Umm cant think of anything else.
I just dontnknow if its the calpol not working well as I could only get half down her.

Its an under arm one that we bought when our other dd was born 3months ago as you cant use the ear one in tiny babies.
We did have an ear one but I just cant find it.
Just checked again and its 37.6

Sounds like the paracetamol is working, I wouldn't be overly worried about her at the moment. A fever is the body's way of killing the bug that she has picked up and so long as she is rousable, comfortable and her fever is controllable I would let nature take it's course.

WooWooSister · 16/08/2017 02:29

That's good that her temp is coming down. I would check it again when her next dose of Calpol is due to see if her temp starts to climb as the medication wears off.

Thanks alot everyone, I might be able to get a little bit of sleep before baby dd wakes up.

I know I get paranoid but I do have my reasons as eldest dd died when she was 2 days old and now I take every illness/temperature as its life or death.
Obviously I dont let on to dd, dont want to give her a fear of being ill.

My dh knows what im like after our eldest dd so needed unbiased advice.

So thank you all for reply so quickly,

I am so sorry to hear about your eldest DD, I almost lost by DD to chicken pox, two years later DS caught a stomach bug that almost cost him his life as a complication of a medication he was on so I understand your anxiety. I hope you can catch some sleep now.

Some medications are available in suppository format and come in handy if a child is unwilling to swallow or is vomiting.

pinkiepie1 · 16/08/2017 07:05

Just to let everyone know her temp has gone down.
Hell- thanks.

And thanks everyone for the advice. Managed a few hrs sleep, I'm still going to go to boots and get some more calpol/ibuprofen.
