Which adult toothpaste will a 3 year old like?

Dentist told me that my 3 year old should be using adult toothpaste as children's toothpaste doesn't have enough fluoride in. Trouble is i don't think she will use the minty ones that I use (Colgate etc) Does anyone have any recommendations?

Your dentist is lacking knowledge. Sort of. Your 3 year old should be using tooth paste of adult strength. Luckily there are lots of toothpastes marketed at children with adult strength (1450 parts per million fluoride). Just go to the kids toothpaste section and pick something that says "age 3+" or "3-5". We use an aqua fresh one. It's a mild mint flavour. I think Colgate stages is suitable too and comes in fruit flavour. I'm a dentist btw

A lot of kids ones do have sufficient fluoride - 1450ppm btw. Have you checked the one you currently have? Ds uses a Crest mild mint one that I get from home bargains

Just checked Colgate 3-5years is 1450 ppm, same as the adult ones I use! Thanks!

We use the aqua fresh kids one which is quite a mild mint.

Oh good, you don't have to change it after all

I was wondering the other day what makes children toothpaste for children? Looking at the tubes we have, one 3-5 and one 6+, the fluoride content was the same on each and ingredients lists app reared to be the same.

I always assumed the age ratings related to strength of active ingredients/ fluoride content or something.... is it just to do with the flavour being milder?

dementedpixie · 09/08/2017 09:28

The kids ones used to have different fluoride strengths. At one point the baby ones only had 500ppm in some brands. I think they tend to have milder flavours and i suppose they are more expensive for the amount you get in a tube compared to adult ones so they make more money out of them

My mint refuser will only have the tesco children's strawberry ice cream flavour toothpaste bit of a mixed message there

It's 1450 ppm too.
