Hi! So my 6.5 month old little girl started weaning about 4 weeks ago and everything has been going great untill i started introducing wheat amd dairy just over a week ago only things like yoghurt and porridge. Since then shes become constipated she still has dirty nappies but its like pebbles and hard and dry so i took the wheat and dairy away thinking it may be that but it isnt making a difference ive tried prunes pears orange juice diltuted with water and nothings helping i rang my health visitor and she said give her more water not just with meals so ive been giving her as much as shell take but she only has about 2oz a day but she isnt dehydrated because shes still having lots of wet nappies she seems fine in her self more tired than usual but is more active now so could be wearing herself out quicker its been about a week now 😭 Has anyone else had experienced this whilst weaning or just in general? TIA

It will be something you've introduced to her diet - go back to basics and just feed veg and protein and fruit for a few weeks.
Obviously don't give cows milk and be careful not to give too much of one food like bananas or bread too

Icewindfire98 · 04/08/2017 23:15

And lots and lots of water

MrsChopper · 04/08/2017 23:20

Do you give her bananas? That is one of the most common causes for constipation, especially in the early stages of weaning. If so, cut it out of her diet for a while and plenty fluids and fruit like apples and pears will make all the difference.

Apples, bananas & cereals cause constipation. I can always tel if my daughter is having a banana nappy because it's dry and pellet like.

Clairelouise91 · 05/08/2017 00:59

Yeh i give her bananas my sister said that makes them go 🙈 Haha thanks ladies ill take bananas out and see if that helps i try and give her as much water as i can offering it all day but she only has a few sips at a time and doesnt seem like shes drank much of it 🙈 Hopefully bananas is the cause!

It is partly her body getting used to food... constipation is hard stools not infrequent stools per se ... keep going ...don't forget to return to foods that you are excluding now as she eats a more varied diet and gets more nutrition from food

My DD is two and has suffered from constipation on and off since a baby. Is diary products that are the problem for her. But the problem is she loves the taste of dairy food so I keep it in moderation with plenty of fluids.

Update! So i went to the doctors and they gave me lactilose which she was on for about 2 weeks made it a bit softer but didnt do much then she was on antibiotics for a chest infection which made her have the runs so i stopped the lactilose since all this she still has hard poos and pellets do you think it might just be normal for her sometimes its almost black! she drinks about 20oz through the day of formula and i give her as much water as she will take which is only like 2-3oz if that. Shes now on 3 meals a day i gave her bolognese the other night and tuna last night as shes 7months old im worried because this morning she had a dark green poo and this afternoon it was blue! The doctors arnt open till tuesday and i dont want to bother primary care if its nothing to worry about anyone else experienced this? She seems to never have normal bowel movements and shes been on solids for 6 weeks now 😞

Shes also had her two bottom teeth come through last week so shes groggy sometimes but i cant tell if its something else or just the teething also i thought teething would more likely give her the runs :/ shes had a sore bum but again i put it to teething...never thought about poop so much in my life!

Try to increase their fluid and fiber intake and this should help your baby. Fruit and fruit juices are an awesome way to relieve your child's constipation and stomach issues. Toddlers magic tea is another good option. This is an herbal natural tea with no preservatives.

Clairelouise91 · 27/08/2017 22:45

I feel like im giving her as much as i can she has its whole wheat pasta she had oats in the morning alls shes been eating is veg And fruit every day lol literally until the past 2 days where ive introduces mince meat and tuna and she is now having weird colour poops 🙈 I didnt really want to give her juice yet but i might just have to give in and see if she drinks more if i dilute it down alot she has plenty of wet nappies still about 8 a day ive been trying everything over the past few weeks but she just doesnt seem to be digesting food as she should im starting to worry there might be an under lying issue ill try juice thanks x

Try feeding her those ready made cartons of milk every few days. That always makes my DS go and cen at 2 years old i still give them to him.

Natural Greek yoghurt is also good when she's a bit older

Clairelouise91 · 27/08/2017 23:24

Shes on aptimil so are you talking about the ready made bottles? I tried them when she was younger when i was out and they gave her tummy ache and gas and made her fussy for the rest of the day after just one so ive never given her them since x

Yes those are the ones

Cuppaand2biscuits · 27/08/2017 23:40

Try fennel tea, you can get it from most supermarkets. Obviously let it cool, it's quite aniseed flavoured but you can add blackcurrant and I promise you it will help her poo.

Clairelouise91 · 28/08/2017 00:26

Thanks will pick some up tommorow x
