Split lip

Hi all, so my daughter had a horrible trampoline accident yesterday and managed to pierce her lip with two teeth. One actually came out the other side arghhh!
Anyway, she can eat slowly but surely solid food broken into tiny bits that she pops into the side of her mouth. However, she can't master drinking. She can't use a cup, she can't suck on a straw etc because her lip is too swollen and huge to close. I have a picture if you wish.
Any ideas on how to get liquid into her. We've tried straws, we've tried beakers, she can't have spoons or fork and the swelling is pretty bad so can't Close her mouth.
Help!

What about ice lollies? Poor thing!

dribblycamembert · 26/07/2017 11:59

She could lick a lolly I suppose. She couldn't suck it though. It's just horrendous 😞

Would you be able to put an ice cube in her mouth and have her lean back so she can swallow as it melts? May have to break up the ice cube. Sounds awful though hope she's feeling better soonSad

Thank you for your responses. I'd worry she'd choke on an ice cube. But maybe crushed ice?!

Can you go and get a slushy and drop bits in for her?

dressinblack · 26/07/2017 13:21

I did exactly this except the tooth that had gone all of the way through was only connected by the root. Horrendous - your poor dd.

I remember eating plenty of soft foods (developed a love for chicken soup) and I now have a little scar which is only visible when pointed out. Healing the inside was sped up by rinsing my mouth with salt water (I did not develop a love for that).

Depending on her age try squirting a sports bottle so it bypasses her lips.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 26/07/2017 13:24

Big syringe? You could get her to squirt water into the side of her mouth with that. Your poor DD. I hope she heals up soon.

Sports bottle sounds like a brilliant idea. She's got ASD so is rather particular about things. Not sure she would tolerate a salt mouthwash but I can try. Slushy is a good idea too. It's so horrible. I can't believe how brave and uncomplaining she is even though her lip is triple the size with a massive hole in it. Thank you for your kind words x

Big syringe is worth a try too x
