Chicken pox and bathing

Dd (2) has chicken pox. This is day 3 and the spots are coming thick and fast today. She's been pretty fine in herself. Obviously a bit teary and itchy. I've been putting calamine lotion on a couple of times a day to all the spots. She's starting to hate that. Anyway I've tried running a cool bath for her last night but she cried as soon as I put her in so I got her straight out. I've just tried again and said I would get in too but she refused. Should I just leave it til the spots are scabbed over? Also, I think she's getting spots under her hair so thought getting it wet would soothe it. Any tips would be much appreciated. TIA

Apparently a stocking filled with oats in the bath is supposed to help soothe and relieve the itching. Not tried it myself but my kids use aveeno for dry skin which is oat based, must be a wonder ingredient!

Bicarbonate of soda in the bath is supposed to be soothing and help the spots to scab over.

Do you think maybe the bath was a bit too cool? One of mine still wanted a warm bath - but still found it soothing.

Also have you tried the gel you can buy which helps soothe the spots? I've forgotten what it's called, but supposed to be better than calamine.

Virasoothe or poxclin.

Calamine makes the itch worse.

Bicarbonate in the bath, or blitz porridge oats in a food processor, tie into a muslin and throw into the bath. Very soothing.

Porridge oats in a Muslin in the bath and then used like a sponge, but not too cold a bath or that can irritate and feel sore. Calamine Aqueous cream is more soothing and less drying than lotion, I applied it with new makeup sponges, made it very fast to put on and gentle to rub in.

And piriton for children knocks the itching out completely as well as helping them sleep. Good luck Smile

Thanks for all the replies. Managed to get some virasoothe and put some oats in a sock in the bath then squeezed oaty water over her. Made the bath a bit warmer. She still wasn't happy but luckily had my best friend here to talk to her and distract her. Sleeping soundly at the moment. Hoping the spots scab over soon. They were looking quite angry today : (

If you can get her in bi-carb in the bath is great. When DS had then I bathed him twice daily using bi-carb and they cleared up in no time. Smile
