11 months, could it be measles?

Hello,
Sorry in advance for the long story.
Basically DD2 has been unwell for about a week now. It started with, what I thought, was just a cold but on Tuesday night she started to get a bad fever, that just wouldn't stay down. We took her to the doctors who said that it looked like a viral infection because they couldn't find any other reason for the fever. That night she just got worse and was sick so on the advise of 111 we took her back to the doctors on Thursday. They confirmed again that it was a viral infection but because no rash had appeared yet they couldn't determine what exactly. He said that he wouldn't be surprised if she got a rash in the next few days but if so don't worry about taking her back unless there was any more problems.
So this morning she started to get a rash around her eyes and cheeks which within a couple of hours was covering her. I've looked at the NHS site and it looks closest to measles. Plus her symptoms leading up to it have been pretty much exact. She is obviously too young to have had the vaccination (it was due at the end of the month!) since she has got the rash her fever has gone and she seems quite a lot happier in herself again.

Does anyone have any experience with measles at all? I will call th doctor on Monday and ask for advise but in the mean time I am concerned. Plus my eldest has obviously been in contact with her but has been vaccinated, if it is measles is she still at risk?

Sorry for all the questions!

mine had white spots inside his mouth with measles. I would call 111 again if you think its measles. its a notifiable disease, anyway.

Could it be roseola? Very common in babies and toddlers and the rash is often confused with measles.

LittleCandle · 08/07/2017 22:38

DD2 had measles (this was 20 years ago) but very mild. My eldest had had the vaccine and didn't get them and she had has a dreadful immune system.

hope your wee one feels better soon.

It probably isn't measles, because if it were she's probably still be miserable as fuck.

However, I suggest ringing 111. If it is measles, then the HPA will want to know about it, because it's so contagious. (If fully immunised, about 1 in 20 chance of catching it if exposed, in unimmunised, about a 90% chance of catching it if exposed. Exposure only needs being very briefly in the same room, and the virus lives on surfaces for a couple of hours, so not even in the same room at the same time)

dd had measles at 9 months. She was ill for a couple of days then the rash appeared and she got very sick. Ended up on a drip in hospital very dehydrated and miserable. But she was ill for the duration of the rash and for days after. But yes - it's a notifiable disease so you do need to call 111 if you think the rash looks similar.

My DD had measles at 11 months. She was so, so poorly and ended up in an isolation room in hospital.

I agree with the poster who mentioned spots in the mouth / throat. That seemed to be the telltale sign for the Drs when they were first examining DD.

I hope that it isn't measles. Flowers

I was thinking roseola as well. My DD was very poorly with that, although it developed into a dappled rash on her tummy/back once the fevers had stopped.

Exhaustedpanda · 08/07/2017 22:52

I don't know much about roseola?

Hopefully it isn't measles then, she is definetly much happier now the temperature has gone down. I tried to look in her mouth for spots but she was not happy about it so I assume that her mouth is quite uncomfortable. I will call 111 in the morning and ask for advise on it then.

Thank you for all your responses!

She was bad when the fevers started, and both paracetamol and ibuprofen would not keep the temperature down, she couldn't sleep or anything with it. But as soon as the rash started the fever went away and she's been able to sleep etc

The symptoms you're describing sound just like what my DS had with roseola. The fever was awful but once the rash was up, he was fine. Maybe Google for pictures to compare?

HeyRoly · 08/07/2017 23:01

Does sound very much like roseola, especially the rash starting as the fevers stopped. That's exactly how my DD was.

See how she is in the morning, but I bet she'll be much better. Google roseola as well - the rash may look familiar.
