DD2 had a strange "episode" on Monday where she went floppy, blue lips, shivering but felt very hot whilst in the swimming pool. She was floppy for about a minute and the shivering and blue lips continued for about 5 minutes. She remained hot and I thought it was best to get her checked even though by that time she was fine. At UCC they gave Calpol and Ibuprofen to reduce fever but otherwise one were fine (aside from an initially low HR, but it was thought it was a poor reading although it was done twice). They wanted to get a urine sample so we attached one of those bags but after 3 hours there was still no wee and I realised she hadn't done a wee for about 6 hours. She was refusing water and solid food but would breastfeed. They sent us over to children's A&E. At A&E they said her throat was red and thought it could be the start of a throat infection, causing the fever, which caused a febrile convulsion (also an absent seizure), and that could be what was making her refuse food and water. She was breastfeeding but wasn't that interested. Whilst in A&E they observed a rash that didn't completely blanch so they decided to do a blood test. They sent us home and called later to say the bloods were fine. Yesterday (Tuesday) she was much better, no fever but still a bit off food. Today I took her to the GP about something else, however on the way I noticed what looked to be hand, foot and mouth so got the doctor to check that too, which he has confirmed. I told him about what happened on Monday and he looked at the blood test results and noticed that her calcium level is high. He said he was surprised that they said the results were ok. Anyway, he's asked for the blood test to be repeated but it's a 4 week wait at the hospital to have it done.
I googled high calcium which was stupid! But now I'm worrying. Is there anything minor that could cause a temporary high calcium level? Just to add that DD was born at 33 weeks, she has slow weight gain (she's currently 7.5kg at just over a year) and she has had continuous coughs, colds viruses and infections since October last year. She is still under consultant care and her consultant has mentioned testing her for anaemia as this could be why she's susceptible to illnesses. Otherwise she is a very happy girl and there are no concerns with her development.
Any ideas or experiences which might help to reassure me?
