Tummy ache

When do you worry about tummy ache? Or when to visit GP?

My 7 year old has complained consistently about tummy ache for about a month. But there is no temperature & he is still bouncing on the trampoline etc etc

It is complained about worse at night - although he says it is always there he just tries to ignore it.

I am not sure what if is - it feels like nothing but don't want to be too harsh.

I haven't done GP yet as feel it could be worrry/School etc but just wanted some opinions.

Have tried gaviscon, calpol, tlc -

Any red flags I should be wary of?

Does he get constipated? Reflux?

Does he have asthma? Sometimes children can say tummy ache to describe tightness in chest - asthma is especially worse at night

Is it worse when he's lying down (positional) or time of day?

Does he have any allergies?

I hedge my bets it's thread worms if he's complaining at night.

Has he complained of an itchy bottom? My DD described them as a tingly feeling.

I didn't tell her it was worms I just gave her Ovex, washed bedding, towels etc and repeated the dose two weeks later.

The whole family have to take it as well. Can you sneak a peek at night with a torch, you might be able to see them 😳

Oh yes threadworms - good call

Although it isn't official advice. I treated Dd for Threadworms on the basis of a tummy ache we couldn't solve and heh presto it resolved. Constipation would also be a prime suspect.

The official advice would be see a GP for a stomachache in a child which doesn't resolve within a few days. Smile

Thanks for replies, he has no other worm symptoms but happy to give it a go. No asthma, but did have reflux as a baby.

Will book GP.

Thanks

I'd think constipation - how often does he go for a poo? My daughter is on lactulose for the same reason - plus she gets overflow (poop overflows from the blockage and ends up in her pants)

He doesn't seem constipated- goes each day - but will read a bit more about it.

He is consistent that the pain is by the belly button.
