molluscum-contagiosum

Heidihi06 · 02/07/2017 19:05

Hi little boy who is 21 months has molluscum contagiosum on his face and now he is getting them in the corner of his eye. I am getting really worried as the doctors say that there is no treatment but the one in the corner of his eye is red so I think it's infected. He has about 15 on his face and they just seen to be getting worse and worse. He has these spots for 12 months now. Does anyone know anything that can help me please. It wouldn't be so bad if these spots were anywhere else but it's his face and I just really want them gone. Thanks all for reading

My ds started developing them and having trawled through several old threads on the matter, I... Scratched the top off each one as it appeared and pressed a cotton bud soaked in tea tree oil on the wound, then put a plaster over til it stopped bleeding. Also i started giving him Thuja, which is homeopathic and I got it from holland and Barrett.

Perhaps he'd not have had it badly anyway, as over 2 weeks I only had to treat 6 or 7 new ones, but touch wood there are no new ones. He's still taking the Thuja as a precaution though.

Sorry, should have said, for infected one near eye, definitely see a Dr asap in case he needs antibiotics.

fudgefeet · 02/07/2017 19:19

I don't know about ones on the face and with someone so young but my daughter had them on the backs of her legs a few years back. I popped them each with a pin, squeezed the white ball out, cleaned with iodine and covered each one with a silver plaster. It was a bit traumatic but cleared it up in a week.

Doc should give you antibiotics if infected, DD got a couple of infected ones in her legs that needed them.
Many people say that the molloscum spots flare up really badly before the infection goes away. As far as I know this is not evidence based, and lots of people will say it's a load of codswallop, but it was def the case with my DD, and DN when they had it, so fingers crossed.

Sorry for posting here - thought I was starting a new post! Have reported...

MoonHare · 02/07/2017 19:23

My Dd aged 4 has recently contracted this. It's awful isn't it? So far it is restricted to her side and behind one knee but it has spread. I had never heard of it before. I feel for you that it's on your son's face.
I agree you should go back to go re the spot that appears infected. I'm off to Google thuja!

Heidihi06 · 02/07/2017 19:35

Ok thank you - I will buy some of that tomorrow. And yes I am taking him doctors tomorrow about the one in corner of his eye. They gave me some cream for his other infected ones but as it's so close to eye can't put cream on that. Just hope they can prescribe something other can cream

Both my boys had this, not on the eye though I would get that seen asap and also try and see a different gp from last time.

They do go away eventually and if you don't squeeze them then they don't scar. I did notice that with vitimins and a healthy diet as their immune system got stronger the spots disappeared and my youngest had a ridiculous amount allover his body. He's almost two and I don't think he has any more now if he does it will just be one or two Smile

They do spread so don't rub them and if you do burst them fidget about then it will just spread further

muddypuddled · 02/07/2017 19:45

I'm pretty sure benzoyl peroxide treats this. It's usually used as an acne treatment and you can buy it over the counter. I'm not sure if there is an age restriction on it though but might be worth checking it.

Ridingthegravytrain · 02/07/2017 19:46

My daughters would get really red and pussy and infected and then go. It was weirdly like the final stage

We bough a topical ointment online. Called zymaderm or something. It was after using that they started clearing up

Our poor daughter had them for over a year

crazykitten20 · 02/07/2017 19:49

Tea tree and iodine is said to be useful

RNBrie · 02/07/2017 19:50

It's probably not infected, they go really red as part of the healing process but it's worth getting checked just in case. The ones near eyes tend to go red and die quicker than elsewhere as they are constantly being bothered by the movement of the eye.

My three dc have had this for nearly three years. My eldest had it so badly we decided to treat it with Molludab which is an acid that burns off the spots. We've had great success with it and all of my dc are nearly clear however new ones do pop up every now and again.

Its expensive but according to the molludab website you can get it on prescription now.

Dairymilkmuncher · 02/07/2017 20:09

Don't put any of the stuff mentioned above on it if is around the eye

Loulou2kent · 02/07/2017 21:00

Heidihi your poor little one. Hope the dr can help. Sorry to hijack your thread but it's so odd because I have been googling my sons symptoms today & this came up. He also has a lump on his eyelid... do dr's diagnose this & just say it will go? Is it contagious? My son started coming up with bumps all over his body. They started as little pink dots then grew bigger & it's spreading everywhere & I've just noticed some on his hairline. He's 20 months. Can I post a pic so you can tell me if it's similar?

Heidihi06 · 02/07/2017 21:41

Hi yes that's fine loulou2kent. And yes well it's a viral infection and they say it can be contagious. I first noticed what appeared to be a 'milk spot' last July and waited a few weeks but it wouldn't go and that's when I went doctors and becasue it had grown and there was a cluster of them that I was told what it was.

My friend used Molludab from Amazon.
I tried it on my ds and he said it hurt. He's got lots now and the skin looks red and sore. I try to moisturise the skin, but can only do it when he's asleep as he won't let me touch it.
I think I might take him to the Dr as it looks so sore :(

sm40 · 02/07/2017 22:02

Ds had these. Used molludab and got rid of them in a few months. Not sure about using it near eyes though. The dr prescribed it so ask/check.
However before they popped(one every week?) they all went pussy and a big red circle appeared. It then went down. A few new ones would appear after each popping. However after a while they calmed down and went away. I think the body finally gets immune after a while but they self infect for a bit.

plentyofshoes · 04/07/2017 21:33

Dd has just been diagnosed. It has started to spread now so will look at the molludab. Can anyone recommend where to buy it from?

theothersideoftheworld · 05/07/2017 21:35

My friend got it from Amazon. Not cheap!!

sm40 · 06/07/2017 22:35

My dr prescribed it! Ask
Them for it as it's quite new so don't all know about it.

plentyofshoes · 06/07/2017 22:55

Doctor refused to do anything so I ordered it in from Boots. It is expensive, but will hopefully work. However, nursery put the wrong suncream on her today and she has had a reaction to it. I will wait for that a clear and then start it. Her skin looked sore tonight and I felt sorry for her although she was still happy.

FriendlyGhost · 06/07/2017 23:03

Where are you based op? My daughter had this and I got some amazing cream from a health food place in Sevenoaks. I will never know if that cleared them or they were on their way out anyway but a combination of popping them and putting the cream on worked miracles. I actually have a pot which I only needed for a couple of weeks before they went and never returned. It's about 4 months old and almost full so I'm happy to send it to you if you want?

peggyundercrackers · 18/07/2017 23:51

our DD suffers quite badly and has the 'bubbles' as she calls them on both legs. we have been using a combination of molludab and thuja, they are clearing up but slowly. She says molludab stings a little when its put on. the spots do seem to get badly inflamed before they disappear, our DD also says they are really itchy. we also give her a bath in salt water and that seems to help too.
