Blood test showing underactive thyroid

My 10 year old recently had some blood tests done, mostly because she has become very anxious lately and keeps saying she feels sick and dizzy so doc wanted to rule anything out. Results have come back showing a underactive thyroid and doctor has referred her to a pediatrician. The thing is I have googled the symptoms and she has none of them. She's very energetic, doing well at school and is skinny as a rake. Just a bit worried really and wonder if anyone has any advice?

Hi, I have an under active thyroid and dizziness and nausea are among the symptoms. Like your daughter, I don't have all of the symptoms listed on google. HAve they prescribed medication?

Gertie, my son developed hypo at 18. So not quite the same as your daughter as obviously 18 is much older than 10. We initially took him to GP as he had a big lump in neck, a goitre. GP thought he'd be hyper as he's very tall and slim, and doesn't sleep much! He's also got HFA. Blood test came back as hypo. I have Hashimoto's- it kind of runs in my mother's family. Only with hindsight did l realise he had been very cold over the previous winter, as had l. I needed an adjustment of my dosage as well. Anyway, the boy is much more alert now. It is quite insidious the way hypo can creep up on you.

Thanks for your replies, she's been referred to a pediatrician, we have no family history of it though my sil has celiac disease and that was on one of the list of diseases that were related?

Coeliac and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) are both autoimune conditions so they are related. Where one autoimune condition is in a family, they often have multiple autoimune conditions.

My sons have a cousin with coeliac, on their dad's side, and lots of autoimmune on my late mum's side, her sisters and a cousin have/had Hashimoto's, and other AI conditions. I have other AI things too. Mum didn't have Hashimoto's but had other AI stuff. Weirdly, my son has tested negative for antibodies so it is likely to be a different cause of hypo for him.
