Surgery for pyogenic granuloma on sons lip

Hi, my 4 year old son got a pyogenic granuloma on his bottom lip at the end of last year, it just came up out of nowhere, a horrible looking lump/cyst thing (about the size of a large pea, sitting on the front of his bottom lip) that a specialist at our local hospital in Herts suggested we have cut out asap. so he went for surgery at the Lister a few weeks later under a general. All went well and looked great after the removal surgery, but then later that day it must of got an infection and things swelled up, over the next day or so, things didn't settle down, so we went back to see a specialist and he said some of the stitches had burst or come loose, so he would have to have further lip surgery to put it right and loads of antibiotics etc.
So he had another general a few days later in a different hospital (had to go through A&E), to put it right and tidy it all up, different surgeon.
It all went well and settled down this time with no infection, but he had to have loads of stitches in his lip to hold it all together.
Now 6 months later, he's all fine but he does have quite a lot of scaring in the middle of his bottom lip where the stitches were.
We rub kelo-cote scar gel on it every night, but have been told that as he grows the scar may magnify! They might have to do further surgery later in the year to tidy up the scar, if they can!
My issue is i don't have a lot of faith in these surgeons at my local NHS hospitals, i want to know how i can find out who is a real specialist top surgeon with sorting out this sort of scar tissue on childrens lips. I don't mind having to travel a bit or even going private if i have to, but i just want to get the best advice and the best possible surgery for my little one, is there a website anywhere for surgeon reviews, or how do i find out who is top in this field of corrective facial surgery for kids, can my gp doctor get me a referral? or How do i get a second opinion on this, just feel locked into the hospitals/clinics where we've already been treated. Want to do all i can to make his lip as good as it can be, you know what kids are like with bullying etc at school.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
S.

www.londonfacialplasticsurgery.co.uk/about/

The website below is good to start off with

baaps.org.uk/

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons

I'd ring them.

I'm really sorry to hear about the scarring Flowers

We saw prof David dunaway privately at the Portland hospital for a much more minor facial thing.

You could try to get referred to him in his nhs post at great ormond Street and see him without paying?

many thanks for your reply's
just roughly how much do you think a consultation would be with prof david dunaway? are we talking hundreds or thousands, sorry i havn't got a clue about these things! But he does seem to be the sort of specialist we're looking for, can you really recommend him? and what do you think the chances are that my GP could refer me to him at great ormond street? Is it ok to change when you are already in the system under a different nhs consultant?

You can always ask for a second opinion referrral to gosh via choose and book I would think (not an expert). I think we paid £250 for the initial consultation iirc but his secretary would be able to give you an initial figure. We just booked to see him privately by ringing Portland appointment line and didn't get a gp referral for that.

I didn't take it beyond initial consultation with him so wouldn't be right for me to say more about him as a dr othe than he seems to be a big name xxx

I can't help with your questions, I'm afraid but I would just like to tell you that I had one of these removed when I was four. I have a scar in the middle of my bottom lip. It's never really been an issue, has faded and only (new) dentists comment on it! I mention this to hopefully reassure you about the scar itself. Btw, my lump was big (covered half my lip), the wound was large, and my lip left slightly uneven.
