My 11 year old has stained front teeth. It's the two front ones and is a permanent stain. Our dentist has says it's because I had antibiotics while feeding him as a baby and there's nothing we can do about it.
It's starting to bother him now and wondered if anyone had any thoughts? Thanks

Dentist here... Picture? Age of child? Did you have antibiotics when BF? Which ones? Was he ill / prem / on antibiotics (if so which ones) as a baby? Any other teeth affected?

bonzo77 · 25/06/2017 22:04

Sorry, saw he was 11..

Mummytron · 25/06/2017 22:08

Thanks Bonzo
Will add a photo in a minute.
I had group b strep infection so was on anti bs in labour and while bf but can't remember what. Feel terrible that this could be the reason

I think because I'm on a mobile I can't attach the photo. No other teeth affected and it's the bottom half of both teeth

My ds has stained teeth. Two front ones and two back ones. I was told it was from they originally formed during toddler years and likely caused by a vitamin d deficiency. DS sees the dentist every three months to have flouride put on to strengthen and once he is at secondary school they will look at teeth whitening to get rid of it.

Thanks Delilah. I'm a bit annoyed they've said there's nothing they can do. Might push a bit

It's sounds like these teeth are hypoplastic. This happens when the enamel formation of this particular tooth is disrupted at around birth. A difficult birth, illnesses, viruses around birth etc can all affect the enamel on the central incisors and first permanent molars.
I don't know why your dentist has singled out the antibiotics OP. That's just not correct. It's much more likely the strep B illness around birth has caused this.
I'm a kids dentist btw.
Please Don't beat yourself up.
My own child has a mild version of hypoplasia.

Just looked at the pic & read your dentist has said nothing can be doneShock
Ask to be referred to the nearest paediatric dental dept -hopefully you have a dental hospital nearby?
Or the local Community Dental Service.
Microabrasion, composite layering, bleaching.....may be possible....too young for bleaching@ 11 though. But get that specialist referral.
Good luck.

Thanks. Is there anything they can do? He's very conscious of them now x
