Posted this in development but thought it may be better in here for responses.

Just wondered if others could give any experience on what it could mean. Did your normal of hearing child need retested at this age?

She was tested due to concerns regarding her lack of babbling and speech

It is quite common for babies to not complete the test at the first attempt even if their hearing is fine. Testing again in a couple of months means that she'll be that bit older and hopefully more able to concentrate on the test. It'll also allow the inflammation to clear. It must be frustrating as I guess you're not much further forward in getting answers about her hearing.

Thanks. I just wanted to know that it was quite common and they weren't just trying to get me to not worry.

Yes its very frustrating as I thought we would have the reassurance that her hearing is ok but its back to waiting.

I find it quite interesting that there isn't a more conclusive test they can do.

It is a good test once the baby is ready and gets the hang of it. There's generally no success with it before 8 months old. There are other tests but they would likely require a general anaesthetic or sedation and so aren't used in the first instance.
Hopefully she'll manage fine next time.
