What's in dd's mouth? (pic included)

Bit of a strange one but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of what this could be?
Dd (10) and her friend said dds mouth bled a lot at school today (dd still had quite a bit of dried blood on her) and when I looked in her mouth, there's a large purple mark at the back of the roof of her mouth, with red & purple smaller marks around it. The pic isn't very clear but I can see at the bottom where the blood has been coming from.
Dd hasn't injured it and she hasn't had anything in her mouth.
No cold or sore throat or anything lately, but she does have a few other health concerns just now so I wondered if any of it could be linked or if it's a strange, one off.
Also, is this something I should see the GP about, or just watch it and see?
Thanks!

I'd take her to the GP, better safe than sorry.

Looks like a haematoma/petechiae on the junction of the hard & soft palate. Usually occurs after a trauma; so if your DD is sure there wasn't an accident-e.g. Chewing on a pencil etc, take her to the GP asap.
Is there any family history of bleeding disorders? Von Willebrands etc?

B19M · 20/06/2017 20:38

Looking again at pic, definitely more haematoma than petechiae.

Thank you.

Yes definitely looks like petichiae but I wasn't sure if it was as worrying being inside the mouth?
She definitely hasn't injured it, I even asked if she had a sour sweet or something, but she says nothing out of the ordinary today.
I'll be honest I haven't heard of that condition, but I'll take her to the doctors tomorrow to get checked out.

If definitely no trauma, then get her checked out urgently. It's unusual to spontaneously bleed in the palatal area. Not so much the nose IYSWIM.
Good luck-your DD definitely needs some blood tests organising.

Thanks, I did think it was odd, but she's adamant she hasn't hurt it at all and it just started bleeding in the middle of class.
Will phone up tomorrow and get an appointment, thank you Flowers
