Child laid in wet nappy

I'm probably being silly but all the worst case scenarios are going through my head right now.3 month old is teething, and in my exhaustion when she woke in the middle of the night (1:30ish) for the life of me I can't remember if I changed her nappy. When she woke at 6:30 this morning her back was wet and her nappy was really heavy so we're thinking it leaked.

Because it was a warm night she only slept in a vest and she had kicked off her blanket. I just don't know how long she was laid in her wet vest and now I'm thinking will she get pneumonia or something?

Please give me reasssurance that I've not made my baby ill

Don't worry she'll be fine. She would have woken up if she was cold or uncomfortable.

She's nice and clean and dry now, no damage done Smile

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2017 07:03

Fine. Not nice but not harmful. Does her skin seem ok

FoxesSitOnBoxes · 16/06/2017 07:05

I never routinely changed DS at night (unless he did a poo) he is, thus far, untraumatised by my lax parenting. I'm sure you will get away with it too

WishUponAStar88 · 16/06/2017 07:05

She'll be absolutely fine. Since sleeping longer chunks my 4mo nappy leaks regularly. If she was cold she would've let you know earlier.

Paninotogo · 16/06/2017 07:06

Do people change 3 month olds nappies at night? Many sleep through at that age, are you supposed to wake them?

Shadow1986 · 16/06/2017 07:08

I'm not sure if I was changing my baby's nappy through the night still at 3 months? I don't think I was! Please don't worry.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 16/06/2017 07:10

She willl be absolutely fine.Smile

Remember when you were a baby, disposables were nowhere near as good as they are niow. I expect you had wet clothes and vests, on many a night. My dds are 23 and 26 and woke up with wet clothes many a morning over the years. It really doesn't do them any harm at all.

She'll be absolutely fine and definitely would have woken if she was cold or uncomfortable. Do you often feel anxious like this? Are you doing ok?

Clumsymumsy22 · 16/06/2017 07:18

Thank you feel a lot better now. I've told myself that she'd tell me if she was cold and uncomfortable but I don't list to myself! Didn't know people don't change them in the night at 3 months. I just do it routinely if she wakes up for a feed and she did have all of her milk. I've also told myself that I wouldn't change her if she was sleeping through, and could therefore be in a wet nappy for up to 12 hours. Her skin seems fine. Thank you everyone, happyniw

Don't worry - I used to size up with nappies for night time so that I didn't have to disturb them for a nappy change once they were sleeping through. I obviously changed them if it was more than a wee though or if they were sodden, but most of the time it was the same nappy all night. They're so absorbent now.

If she was cold or uncomfortable she would have let you know - I doubt a leaking nappy would cause any problems but things to look out for are blue lips or blue fingers/fingernails. If this happens they do warm up pretty quickly so it's nothing to worry about, but that's the time to act.

You sound like a lovely mum, it can be stressful when you deviate from what you'd normally do or when you forget something but babies are very resilient when they have their basic needs taken care of - your baby will be fine even when you forget a few things every now and then. Try not to give yourself a hard time for these things, it's totally normal and acceptable, giving yourself a hard time can lead to anxiety which isn't nice (I did this, looking back I feel like I wasted a lot of time that I could have been enjoying).

HowCanThatNameAlreadyBeTaken · 16/06/2017 07:37

I've never changed their nappies at night unless it's a poo which as a newborn seems to be regularly but when they are bigger just try and keep them all sleepy and wrapped up (when not boiling hot!) and feed and back to bed! If they regularly wake with a leaky nappy it might be time to go up a size.

If my DS wakes during the night I works change his nappy so he's more comfortable to go back to sleep. However many people on MN don't invase it disturbs the baby

Baby's skin is very sensitive so perhaps use extra or just use nappy cream for today if you don't usually. As for the heat we still use a Gro temperature gage which I find useful. But on warm nights like last night I'll just pop DS into a long sleeved vest and thin grobag as opposed to PJs
