Fever and when to worry?

My almost 1 year old has been feeling so poorly the past few days she has been teething on top but she's refusing food and drink her nappies aren't full like they normally are shes so hot like burning hot that she's practically stripped to a nappy occasionally a vest. Her temperature is 38c and has been like that for the past 2 days when she had calpol it went down but then soon raised again! I don't want to keep giving her calpol but just worried about when is the best time to take her to the doctors or when I should really worry about her temperature and go to emergency doctors.

Thanks In advanced.

My DC was really poorly once and was referred to hospital (not just a temp)... the consultant wasn't worried about a temp of 39.5 at 10 months old and said to just keep giving her calpol and nurofen for a week if the temp goes above 38. Anything below that and he said the body was doing what it should be doing and fighting off the infection so no calpol would be needed. They all give different advice though. It says on the bottle to not give calpol more that 4 days in a row.

A temp of 38 isn't high so try not to worry too much. The important thing is it comes down with calpol but the advice is not to give medicine unless the baby is uncomfortable or the temp is hight so 39.5 and above.

If she has a temp for more than 5 days see a GP. In the mean to me, keep offering fluid and monitor nappies. You would want a wet nappy every 6 hours really.

Hope she feels better soon

How's she doing op?

lemon20 · 07/06/2017 21:26

@noneedhere she's so much better today surprisingly she's had a proper meal today finally with no struggle unlike the past week! As soon as I saw her grabbing things that she isn't allowed to touch then I knew instantly she was back to herself! A little tired but seems things are going back to normal yay!

That's good news, amazing how they bounce back.
