DD showed first signs of cp on Wednesday. She's now covered in them.

We are due to fly out on holiday in 8 days - 12 days since first spots appeared.

Airline policy is "must be 7 days since first spots appeared with no new spots appearing".

Spoke to doctors surgery - they are writing a fit to fly letter but haven't even seen her and didn't seem to need to.

I'm panicking now as more spots appear that we won't be able to go.

Does 8 days seem like enough time for this to run its course and for her to no longer be contagious?

Yes they come out reasonably fast 24 hours with my kids speed it up a bit buy virasoothe dried them out a treat

Yes that should be fine, Give baths with baking soda and oats ( in old tights or a sock ) it helps to soothe and dry them up.

You'd have to be very unlucky to still have infectious spots after 12 days. Spots tend to crust over after 5/6 days.
We flew with DD only 6 days after the spots apeared (BA policy is 6 days). We got a doctors note the day before. I was prepared to show the doctors note, but amazingly not one person at the airport asked us about her spots.

DD2 was absolutely covered in spots, poor mite, but they had started to clear up 5 days after us noticing the first one. By 7 days we were out and about as I was confident that she was fully encrusted and nothing new had appeared. Fingers crossed that it all happens quickly for you too.

Thanks all - looking at the state she's in now I can't imagine it would clear that quickly - she's a mess and so itchy despite being covered in virasoothe and calomine cream, bathed in bicarbonate and dosed with piriton.

Enid did the doctor actually examine your dd? I was amazed I wasn't asked to make an appointment and just told to pick the letter up 😳

Honestly - DD2 didn't have one square cm on her body which didn't have a CP on it. It made me want to cry a bit looking at her. But they came out FAST and went quickly too. You'd be surprised at how speedily they bounce back :)

I hope so LBOCS2 - just looking at her makes me itchy!

Yes, the doctor examined DD, because she was only 6 days since the spots appeared, so very likely she would have still been infectious. Luckily for us her cp was fairly mild and the spots had crusted over.
Your GP is happy to give you a note without seeing your DD because of the time scale involved - GP must believe that it's not possible to be infectious 12 days after spots.
