No Kwells anywhere!

Help.

4yo developed travel sickness recently. We bought Kwells kids. Worked a treat.

One tablet left and a long journey/holiday around the corner and Kwells out of stock everywhere including internet! Just a few random Boots miles away seem to have them.

They keep suggesting wrist bands but I know he won't wear it.

What can I give him? Everything else is 5+.

I have no advice but I couldn't find them in any local shops recently. Not sure why.

AuditAngel · 02/06/2017 23:23

Stugeron works for us

AuditAngel · 02/06/2017 23:23

Just checked and that is 5 and over.

MaroonPencil · 02/06/2017 23:27

This happened a few years ago, there was nary a Kwells to be had between Essex and Yorkshire. (And possibly elsewhere, that was the specific journey we were making!)

I don't know what their supply chain issue is. Sea Legs says you can give half a tablet to 4 year olds, if that helps. www.drugs.com/uk/sea-legs-tablets-leaflet.html

From March this year

Bayer is currently facing some technical issues relating to the manufacturing of, hyoscine hydrobromide and is thus not able to supply further stock. It anticipates that normal supply will not resume for at least another 6 months.

Perhaps try promethazine but would need GP to ascertain dosage I think.

MaroonPencil · 02/06/2017 23:44

Oh apparently Sea Legs no longer exists, sorry OP

TesticlesInTheBlender · 02/06/2017 23:49

Phenergan can be given from 2 years upwards - it does cause significant drowsiness though.

MaroonPencil · 03/06/2017 00:04

My parents gave me phernergan for a long car ride when I was a toddler and apparently rather than make me drowsy it had the exact opposite effect and turned me into a demon. So family history has it anyway. My mother still pales when the word phernergan is used in her hearing. Which is not often, clearly.

MaroonPencil · 03/06/2017 00:05

Sorry for complete inability to spell phenergan there!

PersianCatLady · 03/06/2017 00:12

I think that your only real option is Phenergan as it can be used from 2 years of age.

Everything else seems to be 5+

madamginger · 03/06/2017 00:15

You may have trouble getting phenergan, a lot of pharmacies won't sell it over the counter.

UnbornMortificado · 03/06/2017 00:16

I use phenergan for DD1 but she's older. I think the elixir is safer from a younger age.

PersianCatLady · 03/06/2017 00:21

Sea Legs and Joy Rides have both been discontinued.

Phenergan Elixir is currently in stock at Chemist Direct.

Heratnumber7 · 03/06/2017 00:25

Give half a dose of a 5+ treatment. Or have lots of stops and fresh air on the journey.

We found DD got less travel sick if we sat her in the front.

StrumpersPlunkett · 03/06/2017 00:35

We have used joy rides a lot but not sure on the age rating.

ProseccoLush · 03/06/2017 00:40

I'm pretty sure the Boots own brand tablets are 3+.

PersianCatLady · 03/06/2017 01:13

Boots Own Brand are not currently available.

ShovingLeopard · 03/06/2017 01:32

My DD, who is so horrendously travel sick she is sick before we have gone three stops on a London bus, gets relief from Piriton. It does make her drowsy, but it is milder and less long-lasting than Phenergan.

We have the personality change to a demon on Cetirizine.....Shock

Malfoyy · 03/06/2017 06:59

Thank you all for your replies.

I've got my sister popping into a pharmacy by her in Birmingham today that allegedly has some Kwells in stock but failing that will try the GP.

I don't really want to waste a GP appointment for this but may have to as stopping and starting etc will make the journey take forever.

PersianCatLady · 03/06/2017 11:00

I wouldn't say that it is a waste of a GP appointment.

You have tried to get travel sickness tablets everywhere and nearly every one is either discontinued or out of stock.

Perhaps the GP can prescribe you a generic version of a drug and it will be easier to get hold of or perhaps they will be able to advise you what else is best given that your child is too young for the only currently available brand Stugeron.

UnbornMortificado · 03/06/2017 11:06

Malfoy I'm taking DD for similar reason at the pharmacist's suggestion. Travel sickness is horrible enough when your an adult never mind for kids.

I'd rather get it ok'd from a GP before giving her a new medication.

Malfoyy · 03/06/2017 11:18

I know it's not a waste of an appointment really but I'm one of those who only sees the doctor when my arm has fallen off types.

I'll pop him down there next week before we go.

Thanks again

Thank you for this thread by the way OP - I have half a packet of Kwells left and am now hoarding them until our trip to Cornwall this summer rather than using them for shorter trips, just in case.

An33ka · 11/07/2017 13:38

Kwells can be found on eBay, so some recently! Both adults and kids
