Baby born with facial palsy

Hi all

Has anyone had any experience of babies born with facial palsy?

My son has been born with left sided palsy which the doctors think may have been caused by pressure on his head during labour.

They said it could to take up to a year to resolve, if it resolves.

Has anyone know any babies with this and did it get better?

Thank you in advance x

Hello. You might find the charity Facial Palsy UK helpful; they provide support and information for people with facial palsy, whatever the cause, and there are definitely people involved with the charity who've had FP since birth and some parents who have a child born with FP.

I hope you find help and support there for you and your gorgeous little one.

Is it definitely palsy and not acf (asymmetric crying facies)? I was told my ds had palsy, and sent for a brain scan through his fontanelle when it wasn't resolved - but it turned out to be acf, which is where the depressor muscle in one side of the lip is missing. This is usually pretty benign but can be part of a wider condition (22q11 deletion). DS is a teen now, still has squiffy mouth, otherwise is perfect...!
