Tongue tied on older children

We have just noticed that my DSS (8) is quite badly tongue tied. I'm puzzled as to why no one ever noticed before.

Does anyone know what would be the normal thing to do at this age? Should it be snipped?

Mine got diagnosed and snipped when I was eleven. I don't know what kind of tie it was but I'd always had trouble talking, so it made a huge difference.

BUT after being snipped (general anaesthetic, night in hospital) I had to have lessons to learn to use my tongue in a completely different way from what I was used to. So I'd say yes, if it's affecting his speech go ahead, but there's more to it than just the op.
