My 6mo's high fever won't go away. It's been 4 days :(

Hi to all mums out there!

My LO is just under 7 months. She's been having fever ranging from 37.6 - 39.8 in the last 4 days. Apart from the high temps, she's been a little off her food and slightly fussier and tired, but other than that she's still quite herself and has no other symptoms. I've been keeping her in light layers, keeping up with fluids as well as giving her paracetamol/ibuprofen every 4-6 hours.

So yesterday i was worried so i took her to the walk-in clinics as i couldn't get an appointment. (We just got relocated to UK from overseas and in the middle of a move so we aren't registered with a GP/paed yet.)
As she was so young, the clinics sent us to the A&E just for a peace mind.

The Dr from the hospital did a thorough check up and took some urine sample. As DD didn't show any other symptoms and her chests sounded clear, being quite alert and bright, the Dr concluded that the fever is probably caused by a virus and it'll probably run it course. So we went home and carried the routine as usual. Came 1am when DH went to check on DD, her temp spiked to 39.8. We then woke her up and gave her some ibuprofen.

Her temp gradually came down throughout the night and it's been sitting around 38 this morning after i gave her another dose of ibuprofen.

Has anyone's DC experience this? I'm worried because i can't remember the last time i had a fever that lasted this long. Poor bubba. The Dr told me to keep an eye of the temp and her fluids intake, which i have... but is that all i can do now just to let it run it course? Does it sound normal? How much longer will it take? Should i take her back in if it stayed the same tomorrow? It's been horrible last few nights :( :( :(

Could she be teething? I think that can cause fever but I could be wrong

There's a nasty virus doing the rounds where i live. Ds1 who's 3 and ds2 who just turned 1 both had it, as have most of their nursery. It's exactly as you described. Ds1 was really wiped out by it but ds2 not as much. Viral throat infection apparently. Both got over it fine eventually

We had 4 to 5 days of fever then gradually faded away

Can't you get registered with a GP. I know it might have been further down your list of priorities with your mega move, but you could do with getting it sorted.

TheChineseChicken -I asked the Dr yesterday but she said teething doesn't cause high fever (37-38 yes but generally doesn't go beyond that). I can't see any teeth sprouting yet but she's been chewing her toys non-stop so i do think it could be a possibility...

Loraline - Thanks for the reassurance. These bugs are horrible aren't they? I just want it to go away. I just gave my LO a bath and her lunch. The temp seems to have come down a bit. I really hope it stays that way! Fingercrossed now.

Bringmesunshite I know what you mean.... it's just the worst timing. We arrived 3 weeks ago and I was originally registering her to the local GP 2 weeks ago, hoping to have DD vaccinated. I was told it'd take 5 business days to put her on the book! 3 days after the registration i rang the surgery to check up on the progress to see if i could make an appointment then i was told DD can't get vaccinated straightaway even though it's overdue. At that stage i thought there'd be no point as we'd move by then so i canceled the application. I should have kept it :/ Anyway, we're moving in 2 days so getting her registered at a GP is on the top of the list!

You can use a GP as a visitor, if you're somewhere you're not planning to stay. In theory, this can also be used as a mechanism to get an appointment whilst you're waiting for registration to go through, although some receptionist s may dispute this.

Sadly, this info is possibly academic, as the problem is usually actually getting an appointment, not which bit of paperwork.

You could try ringing 111, and see whether they advise you to go for further medical input.

Your gut feeling about whether your child is improving or deteriorating is your best guide here.
