When is chicken pox not chicken pox?

11 yr old dd has developed tiny little water filled blisters on her arm and back. Perhaps about 30 in total. They are itchy. She has no fever or any other symptoms. When I was investigating the blisters I also found a couple of patches of ringworm.

I've given her antihistamine for the itching, and calamine lotion on the spots.

I'm treating the ringworm with antifungal.

I'm trying to get her to see a doctor today. But in the mean time, any thoughts?

Are the spots localised in one area on one side of the body? Could be shingles

My three children had chicken pox and none were ill with it. No fevers or nausea etc. Plenty of spots though. Different kids react differently.
I do believe that singles is almost always painful?

Shingles in children is not always painful. Ds had them age 3 and they were itchy rather than sore

AuditAngel · 01/05/2017 10:35

I was an adult when I developed shingles, made me tired, but no pain

Ah right, I guess it could be shingles then. I'd read that pain was one of the symptoms. I knew a few people that had shingles and it was cripplingly painful. Sad
Maybe phone your doctors surgery tomorrow and ask their opinion? I know our don't like to have chicken pox sufferers attending clinics if they can help it to reduce chances of spreading it.

We managed to see a doctor.

It's chicken pox.
