Baby switching from omeprazole oral suspension to mums

Hi there

My four month baby boy has silent reflux and has been on omeprazole oral suspension for the last six weeks and things have improved well, the paediatrician is now recommended moving him over to omeprazole mups and I'm worried whether this would have the same benefit or if I should insist he has the suspension. Does anyone have any experience of switching? Thanks

I'm not your paediatrician...I know that because I only ever start with the suspension if the baby has a nasogastric tube (MUPS can clog those). The MUPS are so much easier to get hold of, lots of places stock them, so no interruptions in treatment, and seems to work just as well in almost all babies. Revolutionised silent reflux treatment, as can now use omeprazole pretty easily, rather than being stuck with ranitidine.

Thanks nocoolnamesleft, I'm a bit dubious about switching to the mups do you know if there as effective as the oral suspension?

We've only ever had the MUPs - have even had to put them down an NG tube! I think when DS started on them more than 9 years ago they didn't make the suspension.

We have found them to be very effective. In fact when I asked the nurses back in the day why there couldn't be a liquid form, they said because they couldn't get the formulation to be stable in a liquid, which suggests that at least back then, the tablet form was considered optimal (though we dissolved it to administer).
