Urgent brace problem - what to do?!

Ds's brace wire has come out of the back bracket. Aargh. This is not the first time and I don't know why as he's adamant he's not doing anything wrong.

Obviously its Easter weekend so I'm assuming the orthodontist is shut Friday n Monday. Wire is digging in to his cheek and has cut the inside of his mouth a number of times.

Complicating factor is that he is having an operation Tuesday morning which will mean I can't take him to orthodontist Tuesday, wed and possibly Thursday.

What, if anything, can I do for him? He's in agony. I know its not an A n E matter but with the operation ahead which will be uncomfortable I really want to help him if at all possible.

Wax won't stay on and if he pushes it on far enough for it to stick then the wire is still protruding

Any chance they open on Saturday or your own dentist does and could either remove or reclip it.

I'd cut the wire at the next bracket and a temporary measure until you can see your orthodontist.

There must be somewhere with emergency cover. I'd ring your out of hours GP service for advice. He can't be left in pain with wires shredding his cheek for the next four days. I'm sure you'll be able to get help from somewhere.

And yes, Saturday is a normal day if the dentist opens on Saturdays.

There might be some emergency/out of hours type dentists that could help? It might cost you a small fortune but if there's no way of bending the wire or something it might be the only option

When we had a recent out of hours dental emergency for an adult we dialled 111 and they booked us an emergency out of hours dentist. It was a fair old drive away but we were very grateful and relieved to get it sorted and under the nhs.

The EDS dentist will do exactly as MrsPNut states- so might be worth cutting it with wire cutters yourself.
