Called 111 advised to go to urgent care - do I have to?

DS is 15mths and had a fever and not himself and I was worried that despite fever he had cold hands and feet. I called 111 and was told a doctor would call. An hour later ds is asleep, and when the doctor called back he advised that I go to the local hospital. Woke ds up his feet-hands are warm temperature normal - I now Really don't feel he needs to see a doctor. I was being a bit panicky with his first temperature. Do I need to still take him of I've been told to do so. I don't want to waste anyone's time.

Does he still have a temperature? How high is it?

Any other symptoms?

It was down to 37.4. It was 38.5
I am not sure why he has a fever as no other obvious symptoms - no difficulty swallowing, no ear pulling.
Is asleep now but has been sleepy this eveing

Who's time would you be wasting? Sleepiness can be a symptom. Better safe than sorry is my thoughts on your situ.

I've had meningitis. Cold hands and feet are a symptom of a disease that's progressing fast and the body's has moved to emergency mode where the heat is being preserved in the core. If DC is genuinely not looking too bad in other ways you'll need to use judgement, but please keep your eyes peeled. Meningitis doesn't always come with septicaemia - but if it does you'll need to get help immediately. Any blemishes or bruises appearing suddenly? Any blood blisters or things that look like love bites?? I vomited and when I removed my top I had 'the' rash instantaneously popping up all over - but I'd had a blister on my eye for 24 hours.

If it's a baby you need to think about whether they are responsive or making sharp noises

People do ring back to cancel appointments if child is better. Do you have an appointment at primary care?
Appointments are very limited, 111 are always grateful to be called back cancelling any appointments as they can use them for others. It's them that do not turn up, they end up wasting time ringing the parent finding out why.

Thanks for all the advice. Decided to go just to be on safe side. Waiting to be seen.
