Night terrors in 6 year old

This is my first post on Mumsnet and I'm hoping there is someone in the same boat.

Our 6 year old son has had night terrors since he was a toddler, terrifying as parents at first but once we read up on them we could handle them. They were really sporadic and only tended to happen when he was ill or extremely tired.

However, he has had one-two of them every night for the last 5 nights. The one last night was particularly bad, he was extremely agitated and waving harms and standing up in bed etc.

He is a natural worrier unfortunately and worries about school and stuff, even though he is a confident little boy. He asked me last night what would happen if I died, would he forget about me and would I forget about him. He sobbed his heart out.

I have an appointment with our GP today to try and get some advise and guidance, but wondered if anyone else's children had suffered with cluster terrors like this?

Hi. My 7 yr old ds was exactly the same, had the odd night terror but then last year began having them 3 or 4 times a week, sometimes 2 or 3 times a night. I went to the GP but he wasn't much help so I asked him to refer to a homeopath which we can get on the nhs and this seemed to help. The other things that I tried was having him in a good routine and trying to get to him quick to settle him. I put a baby monitor back in his room so I could hear him right away, otherwise he could get very distressed and often looked like he was hallucinating. Overall I think it went on for a couple of months and then seemed to pass and he's back to ony having the very occasional one.
My 10 yr old ds has had occasional night terrors as well but often it's if he isn't so well.
It's horrible to watch but I'm sure I will improve.
