Baby's temperature high and then low

DD is 5 1/2 months (4 months corrected). She has bronchiolitis, I took her to the GP yesterday just to get her checked and she said she is wheezy but her chest is clear, her glands are up and her throat is red. The doctor said it's possible it might develop into tonsillitis and if we're concerned over the weekend to take her to A&E. She didn't have a fever yesterday morning but by the evening she did (37.9) so I gave her Calpol. This morning she had a fever again (37.8) so I gave her Calpol again but when I checked a little while ago it's now low (36.4). Is it possible that the Calpol has reduced it to that level? Or is that not how it works? I've wrapped her up and her temperature is on its way up again but I also don't want to make her too hot! I don't know how to manage such a fluctuating temperature as I don't want to send it in the other direction. Does anyone have any experience of this?

Calpol can reduce temperature but it sounds highly so I would call NHS24/out of hours and seek advice. Hope your little on is ok!

I wouldn't say that was a low temp, that sounds around normal tbh.
Keep an eye on her which I'm sure you are doing anyhow.
And a temp of 37.8 is just over normal.
If her temp goes over 39 then I would be more concerned.
Obviously if she becomes breathless, not feeding, very sleepy then get her checked regardless of temp.
Hope your little one gets better soon.

Thanks for the replies. I had in my head that anything above 38 for her corrected age was when you should get help so I was thinking it was borderline but I now realise it's above 39. As for the low temp, the NHS said that's about normal but when DD1 was in NICU they always used 36.5 as a cut off - if it went below they'd turn up the temperature in her incubator - but maybe that's just more relevant for neonates as they have more of a problem controlling her temperature. Anyway, I'm feeling a bit more reassured now.

It's hard with a prem baby, I had a prem baby as well and he is nearly 16 now and I still worry.
But always trust your instinct.

36.4, I wouldn't regard as low, it's within normal for my dc-and if you're talking about 0.1 then probably the thermometer isn't accurate that much, and it depends on where you take the temperature etc.

Ds tends to drop badly after a fever. though in his case it can go below 35, it just seems to be the way his body reacts. I mentioned it to the doctor and he said as long as he's not showing signs of hypothermia then not to worry as it seems to be typical for him.
